The Big (Ha) thread for all things Munchkin!
Do you have any amazing ideas for new cards?
What's your favorite set?

For all those who don't know, Munchkin is the one and only game to actually encourage reckless scumbaggery!
Forming alliances against other players, you scramble to be the first player to get to level 10, while beating others down (preferably with the biggest stick you can find.)

NOW DISCUSS.

I've played it a few times. It's usually quite fun. The Apocalypse set was a little disappointing.

Owned some sets, the star munchkin stuff in particular. I'm sorry to say I absolutely hate that game. I'm a cooperative gamer at heart, and the transparent shameless "screw your buddy" mindset that goes into that game really annoys me.

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

I played it a bit with a few mates. One got really attached to Wexler (Wexter? The dino with minigun arms), getting him every single game. I made it my mission to kill that damn dino off, it crushed her. Hilariously good fun. She'd always kill my army chihuaha though...so uncalled for

I do see how it could be utterly loathed.
I myself am absolutely in LOVE with the concept of "make your friends try to kill you because you were a huge dick."

My group don't play it often, but when we do, we play it with a light heart as a prelude to our "real" gaming, which is either co-op PC/Console, or Boardgames/P&P RPGing (which are also pretty much co-op).

Reason I hate it is because you always come across something you can't kill on your own and my donkey-cave brother is always willing to help out, but only if he can have all the rewards. The witch.

I meant that I liked it. But I can only play so much of it at once (like maybe 2 games). It's the second biggest 'what an ass' card game out there, right behind descending whist. But that doesn't mean it isn't fun, just that it is only fun in limited amounts

My gaming group enjoys it, but probably because we play it a few times a year; so it's almost a means for friendly revenge and just trying to annoy each other which is fun in itself. Having said that, we've never been bothered about playing it regularly or multiple games in one sitting which is probably why we find it fun on the rare occasions we do all sit down and play it along with various other card/RPG's

Ah, well I am not quite in the same boat with you as the few times I've played it have soured me of the game forever.

Never played Killer Bunnies then, now thats a wild what they hell dose that card do, game of screw your friends. Anyways Munchkin is great, I'll been playing Munchkin: Axecop with my neice and nephew (age 10 & 12) and they love it, more so becouse they can backstab there uncle. For my game group I own the entire core line, plus the misprinted Clerical Errors.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Have you played descending whist? That's a more serious card game (as in it uses actual cards and has proper rules), but it is an even more of a 'screw you' game because you can be so calculating about it. Stuff your bid up in the first trick or two? Spend the next 8 trying to ruin everyone else's bids. Brilliant.

I refuse to play with my friends because everyone is afraid to do anything to each other until it is too late.

It's an OK game. With a larger group (6+), it can take hours and hours. The basic game mechanics are fun, and my group treats it as a light-hearted beer and chips game. But since it takes so long to play, we generally play other games like Arkham Horror or Elder Signs or Battle Star Galactica that we enjoy much more.

I definitely tend towards co-op style games, but can definitely enjoy a good competitive free-for-all.

The middle of the game is actually pretty enjoyable, with some deals, fighting, advancing, whatever.

Problem with Munchkin, is, its endgame drags on forever and isn't very fun. Everyone gets to the point of almost winning, then you spend ages shutting down player after player from winning, until either someone gets bored and throws the game because they want it to end or believes one player deserves to win; or someone makes a great play, doesn't quite manage it, but drains everyone else's resources and the next player who has a half-decent set wins.

At least with games like Risk and Monopoly, when the game actually ends, it's because the winner has dragged the other players, reluctant and bloodied, through to the end of their boring but cemented victory. With Munchkin, there's enough chance and ridiculous combos that it's usually some random player that wins.
