I'm really tempted to start a Dark Eldar Army at some point in the future, so I figured I'd try to work out a decent, small list that I could use. I've aimed for 1000 points. I'd like the army to be fairly competitive, well, actually quite competitive considering DE are not as good as some other armies out there, but I'm not trying to WAAC. I'd also like it to be cheap money-wise. This army is made up of the Battleforce, an Incubi box, an Archon, a Ravager and another box of Reavers. Sounds a lot put that way, but at least I get the saving of the Battleforce. I can eBay the rest.

So, here's the list.

Edit: Updated list further down.

--------------------

HQ

Archon (150)
Huskblade, Combat Drugs, Shadowfield, Blast Pistol

Elites

Incubi x4 (198)
Klaivex with Onslaught and Murderous Assault. Mounted in a Venom w/ 2 Spliter Cannons and Flickerfields

Troops

Kabalite Warriors x10 (185)
Shredder, Splinter Cannon. Mounted in Raider w/ Flickerfields + Night Shields

Wyches x5 (145)
Haywire Grenades, Hydra Gauntlet. Mounted in a Venom w/ 2 Spliter Cannons and Flickerfields.

Fast Attack

Reavers x3 (98)
Heat Lance, Cluster Caltrops

Reavers x3 (98)
Heat Lance, Cluster Caltrops

Heavy Support

Ravager (125)
Flickerfields, Night Shields

TOTAL: 999

------------------------------------

Yeah, so the Archon joins the Incubi in the Venom. Then I, well, I guess I go and kill stuff. Should have a good amount of anti-tank with the Wyches, Heat Lances and Ravager. Archon and crew murder stuff in combat and the Kabalites all shoot I guess. Reavers slice stuff up. I normally like to have 3 Troops choices minimum at 1000pts, but I'm told it doesn't really matter with DE.

Anyway, let me know what you think

Reavers are tricky to run in groups of 3, especially if you plan on running people over with those caltrops. Consider them in a group of 6 with lances to add to your Anti-Tank (Which seems to be the single Ravager?). Also, either/or with the heat lance/caltrops. These guys don't usually benefit from both.

Another tip, Dark Eldar benefit from models on the board more than they do from upgrades. Every time I consider my upgrades, I think about the fact that I can get a Venom full of Wyches with Haywires for 125pts. Also, dumping your Archon in the Venom with the Incubi means almost 1/2 of your points are in one boat. Big target.

EDIT: If you want to WAAC, why not check out some Venomspam lists? Those little guys are beasts, and for very little points can put out a lot of hurt.

Second running either lances or caltrops. Both is usually overkill. I usually take lances, as caltrops are just boosting an ability the reavers already have, but the lance adds AT, something they otherwise lack.

The archon should ditch the blast pistol. That squad should either be running or charging, not going after tanks. If you have a soul trap, a blaster can be fun to instagib characters or finish off a unit and double your S. Since your incubi don't have grenades, consider a PGL so you can charge into cover and benefit from defensive nades. It also gives one of your incubi something to shoot if you want. A venom blade is also a good weapon to use akimbo with the huskblade, say, to force wounds on a Tough target or dig through an invul.

The klaivex is probably overkill, as 4 incubi and an archon should easily stomp through anything you see at 1k without a klaivex. If you must have one, I would stick to just onslaught. This unit will be a priority target and venoms are quite fragile, so be careful.

Your kabbies can drop the shredder and maybe the splinter cannon to add splinter racks to their raider. This unit will be capable of putting out some serious poison dakka.

Drop the hydra gauntlets off your wytches. If you must have a special weapon, take the shardnet to tie up dreads/MC's.

Ideally, you want to cut points to get another....something. Since you are going battlebox, you have an extra 5 wytches so if you got another venom it would be quite effective. Flickerfields are not as critical as they used to be, so consider dropping those as well.

Thanks for the comments guys. I didn't notice that the battleforce had 10 Wyches in and I missed the Splinter Racks upgrade - that's awesome.

I think I have enough Anti-Tank though. I've got the now two squads of Haywire Wyches and the Ravager, and the Heat Lances on the Reavers would probably do the trick in a pinch and cheaper than Dark Lances. I really like the Cluster Caltrops though. D6 S6 is a massive upgrade on D3 S4. I've had them used on me before and it's horrible.

The Klaivex with both his powers is really there to accept unwanted challenges for the Archon, but now that I think about it, the Archon probably wants to get into combat with characters due to his ID weapon. So I'll cut this unit down in points.

Hydra Gauntlets seemed good on the Wyches if I turned to attacking infantry (not unlikely) and I think Flickerfields are beneficial for when I don't get the first turn and can't Jink.

Anyway, in trying to fit in a second unit of Wyches in a Venom, I've had to rethink the list quite a bit. I've had to drop 3 of the Reavers sadly, since there was nothing else I felt I could drop. It would then be cheaper to buy. Here's the new list:

------------------------------

HQ

Archon (160)
Huskblade, Combat Drugs, Shadowfield, Phantasm Grenade Launcher

Elites

Incubi x4 (163)
Mounted in a Venom w/ 2 Spliter Cannons and Night Shields

Troops

Kabalite Warriors x10 (190)
Splinter Cannon. Mounted in Raider w/ Flickerfields, Splinter Racks + Night Shields

Wyches x5 (135)
Haywire Grenades. Mounted in a Venom w/ 2 Spliter Cannons and Night Shields.

Wyches x5 (125)
Haywire Grenades. Mounted in a Venom w/ 2 Spliter Cannons.

Fast Attack

Reavers x3 (101)
Dark Lance, Cluster Caltrops

Heavy Support

Ravager (125)
Flickerfields, Night Shields

TOTAL: 999

Let me know what you think Is it better? Worse?

Overall, looks better.

A couple of your point totals are off though. You know a venom gets a flickerfield stock, correct? You don't have to buy them one.

The incubi venom should be cheaper, and combined with the points you save dropping the chain snares you can get night shields on both wytch venoms. Or, one on the incubi venom and one on a wytch venom.

Ah, yes, I've fixed those point totals and I've bought Night Shields on the Incubi Venom and the Wych Venom
