Hi,

So I've been looking about getting into fow but don't know where to start, I've been hinking of playing the soviets, germans, or maye the italians. I've never played it before and have only seen it played 1 or 2 times but am extremely interested. What should I buy to get into it and what's the average game length and cost to get in?

Your comments would be much appreciated

FOW can be expensive to get into.
Typical games are from 1500-1780pts. Typical games last 2-3 hours.

The army lists are balanced around three time periods, Early War 1939-41. MidWar is 1942-93, and Late wAr is 1944-45. IMO LW is the most popular period, with
MW a close second, and EW a distant third.

You need a rule book and a company briefing. BF has posted free Company Briefing pdfs on their website if you want to get the gist of how you need to structure an army. The current brief for 'generic' units is the Forces Book.

Where are you located?

My thought would be to start with germans of the three you mentioned. Soviets are a bit trickier to use IMHO. Italians really only play in mid and early war, so not as good use.

If you want to start decide if you want to do tanks, infantry etc.

you can always get models cheaper from other companies like 'plastic soldier company'.

if you want an 'easy' army try the new 'atlantik wall' book and one of the panzer companies

Panzers to the Meuse is one of the better PDFs if you want to look at a German list. It also has quite a few options (16 different companies w Lehr, 2PD, 9PD and 116PD)

Using an online retailer (10-15% discount) I got a 1700 pt 101st Airbourne Force for £70, around $110. 1 box of US Airborne and 2 Plastic Soldier Company Shermans with Fireflys. Now, its not an Uber army, but its fine for getting started with. Coming from GW games myself, I thought this was a miracle

My first move in FOW was getting the Open Fire set. I had to put on hold my desire for a horde of Panzers and it was worth it. You get two good starting forces, your handy rulebook and the great "getting started" type guide. All for £45 ~$75

So yeah, I recommend Open Fire before anything

Average Game? Depends on which stores for me. If creating an army, I always go for 1780.

Hope I helped a bit
