I have a friend of mine who just got the new Daemons dex and made a Khorne list. He wanted to make it full of a bunch of big guys that will take your lunch money. However he is not happy with how his list plays as when he gets one of his big guys across the trenches . He gets lit up by every ones guns, as no one wants a DP or Bloodthirster in their face. This has now happened just about every game poor guy has not even got a chance to behead someone with his Bloodthirster yet. He is now depressed and thinking about selling his Daemons and starting over. I wish to lend a helping hand to keep a player at my local meta ,I'm not sure what to tell him to make a good Khorne list. So asking Daka for help in making a 1500 pt list .(just please make sure every list has BT as a HQ)

Khorne Puppies are great, team them up with Karanak, lots of fun. Admittedly my Khorne Daemons are just for fun, but I like a Thirster, three heralds in Chariots, Karanak, obligatory letters, hounds, and whatever DP's I can sneak in along with some Cannons of Khorne. Tell him to play Khorne its important to remember. Khorne cares not from whom the blood flows. It's a fun list, though I stay away from the frustration of the juggers. Chariots may not be "in", but I have a ton of fun with them.

If he's willing to break from the mono-khorne mold, Fateweaver is a great choice for a first HQ. For advice at getting better in a "competitive" meta, we'd need some specifics about what he's looking at facing. And how strict he is on the mono-Khorne list. There are a lot of synergies that are best with mixed Daemon armies.

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

What's his list typically look like? And what are the armies that he is facing? What points level?

As said, Khorne Hounds are good. I like having a Khorne Herald on Juggarnaut with them. They are for a AP2 weapon. Grimiore works wonders on them.

For the big guys, a FMC with a 3+ Armor save should be able to make it swooping to the enemy lines, unless there is so much anti-air in your meta. I think 1 Bloodthirster, 2 Flying Daemon Princes, then 2x Khorne Juggarnauts with 15-20 Hounds is a start. Once those hounds get into combat, everyone will see how nasty they are in assault. After that, pressure should be taken off the Bloodthirster.

Also, Rewards on the Thirster and Princes. Of you're not going grimiore route, 2x Greater, 1 Lesser. Greater helps with survivability. You want the Feel No Pain one, but the others are helpful too. Make sure to swap the 3+ Armor reward, as you should have that already. If you want grimiore (Fluffy in Khorne because it sounds like one of the Burning Books) take Exalted and Greater on the Princes. Also consider taking Portal glyph.

Also, the Khorne Cannon can be good with an assault based army.

Hope this helps some.

+1 on the hounds & herald on juggernaut.
I'd think about adding a Soul Grinder with Phlegm, but not necessary. Khorne DPs just don't feel as survivable as the other gods, but I don't run them that way too often, so I'm not sure.

Depending on how things go, a few crushers with Karanak to scout them ahead, plus a Bloodhunter with a lesser reward for the AP2 sweetness would work out nicely.

I've thought about trying out either the Bloodthrone or Skarbrand via scouting ahead with crushers and an icon (and a unit or two of hounds) with a comms relay to DS the model close enough to give it's bonuses to only my squads, but it is reliant on keeping the crushers alive through a round of shooting. May be worth checking into...

I wrote this World Eaters list yesterday: http://www.imperiusdominatus.com/2013/08/army-lists-chaos-space-marines-world.html it has Chaos Daemons allies, so not pure Daemons, but it is pure Khorne.

Here's the entire post if you cannot be arsed to click the link:

Chaos Space Marines w/ Chaos Daemon allies 'World Eaters' - 2,000 points

HQ

Chaos Lord - lightning claw, sigil of corruption, juggernaut of khorne, burning brand of skalathrax & mark of khorne
Bloodthirster - exalted reward

Troops

10 x Khorne Berzerkers - Champion w/ power fist
10 x Khorne Berzerkers - Champion w/ power fist
10 x Bloodletters of Khorne

Fast Attack

Heldrake - baleflamer
5 x Chaos Spawn
10 x Flesh Hounds of Khorne

Heavy Support

Chaos Land Raider - dirge caster & extra armour
Chaos Land Raider - dirge caster & extra armour

Total: 2,010

Whoops, over by 10 points. Drop a Chaos Spawn maybe?

When making this list I thought Chaos Daemons would be a good way to go in order to get some variety in. I did also consider Mutilators as no one uses them and with mark of khorne they would be pretty annoying deep striking into the rear of your deployment zone. Chaos Terminators were another unit, but throwing them in Land Raiders seriously sucks up points and you cannot have Khorne Berzerkers in a Rhino.

Tactics

The Chaos Lord teams with the Chaos Spawn and they zoom forward using cover. They will split off in time with the Chaos Lord picking on small units in combat but not before a good roasting while Spawn tackle infantry, act as a tarpit and even annoy vehicles.

The Land Raiders will come charging forward carrying the Berzerkers. I added extra armour so only immobilised results are stopping these and you can also laugh when someone tries and overwatches them thanks to the dirge casters.

Flesh Hounds add redundancy with fast moving units, they will provide excellent support and saturation for the Chaos Spawn.

The Chaos Daemons part is really to add a second flyer, a Bloodthirster. Due to lack of troops in this list and the fact the troops are tearing it up the Bloodthirster will use the portalglyph and spawn free troops - remember to drop it some where out of line of sight

The Heldrake supports the Bloodthirster by giving another flying threat. It can also soften up units with the baleflamer prior to assault.

Princes of Khorne are by far the weakest princes. They are the easiest to kill and they are actually less killy than other princes are.

If he wants a monster mash, I highly recommend Tzeench.

As for Khorne lists, BT HQ is nearly mandatory.

Then get at least one unit of khornedogs, with or without a juggernaut herald joining them. Adding the herald gives you rage (the greater locus) and access to an ap2 weapon for a paltry 10 points. The unit is insanely fast and quite durable. Adding the herald will mean you wont get another BT though. These guys are sweet and they crush the souls of all but the most absurd of gunline firepower.

Take a greater and exalted on (one of) the BT, getting true names to bolster the dog units' survivability.

Add in 0-1 skull cannons, 1-2 Soul Grinders (khorne ones saving grace is they are cheap), sprinkle in a few 15 man bloodletter squads (with your choice of upgrades) and you have a fairly well rounded khorne list that can at least answer most things.

Also, bloodcrushers are a trap, don't fall for them.

I will also say that Daemons are not going to be an easy army to start with. They have a lot of weird, more complicated rules than other armies, and 6th caters more to shooty units than to combat ones. This might frustrate him until he gets used to proper movement practices and all the minor details of the 3 phases. If you can, let him get in practice games with a borrowed army so he can learn more about the other rules. With daemons you need good target priority, and it will help him see what units should be singled out and kill order setup.

His list is this

2 BT
3 DP
2x10 of blood letters

He would then deck out his DP and BT with wings and every gift and bit of gear to give them. The man no matter what game like having a small army of studs. He goes up against tournament level lists of NECS,TAU, CSM, ELDAR,and tyranids.

Ok. Bloodletters aren't as good as they used to be. With only 10 in a squad, overwatch and any fire along the way will kill most of them. How does he use them? Marching across the board or deep striking?

I would do a mixture of Dog Pile and FMCs. So probably 1 BT, 2 DP, 2x 15 Bloodletters, and 2x Juggernaut Herlads with 15-20 Hounds.

I would say with Bloodthirster and Daemon Prince, just 2 Greater Rewards.

Here is a 1850 list that I just threw together. I haven't played Khorne, so this is just theory hammering. Hounds scout, and everything else swoops. Should see assault turn 2. Deepstrike Bloodletters near enemy.

HQs -
Bloodthirster - 290
2 Greater Rewards

2x Hearlds of Khorne - 260
Juggarnuat, Loci of Fury, Lesser Reward (Axe of Khorne)

Troops -
2x 15 Bloodletters - 330
Each Bloodletter squad has a character with lesser reward.

Fast Attack -
2x 14 Hounds - 448

Heavy Support -
2x Daemon Prince - 520
Wings, Armor, Daemon of Khorne, and 2x Greater Rewards.

Only thing that worries me about this list is it's light on troops and anti-air.

Gives you 3 FMC, 2 Dog Piles, and 2 Scoring Killy Troops.

He will deep strike the blood letters and try to charge a squad of infantry

I would syrongly recommend two squads of 15 hounds backed up with heralds with the exalted locus of wrath (mathammer says it's better than the rage one and it works even if the hounds get charged or they do a disorganiced charge). i also give the two heralds portaglyph and grimoire. For HQ i have faithweaver but for mono khorne just take a thirster with two greater and one lesser. I never use khorne princes, but fill my heavy slots with deepstriking grinders with the torrent flamers as my meta is full of tau and eldar now. For troops i use a mix of horrors and plaguebearers, but if playing mono khorne i take two 14+ sized letter squads and just keep them in mid field while the hounds and grinders mop up the enemy end of the table.

If your friend must play monster mash, then go full tzeentch. Take fateweaver and FOC and three tzeentch princes with all fully pumped up with rewards and psychic levels and use 11 sized horror units as troops.

If the Bloodletters survive, which is slim chances. They are best deep striking by camping units and then charging them. Those units tend to be small and do not have weight of fire power to completely take out the Bloodletters. I still do not fancy their chances though.
