I'm brand-new to 40K and I chose Necrons to start with because I love my Tomb Kings so much. I'm entering into an escalation league and I'm at a loss as to what to bring for the first month. Below are the Month 1 Force Organization rules:

6. Month 1 Force Organization Rules
A. Minimum 1 troop choice
B. 0-1 HQ (No named character. Armies that require certain special characters to run can be used without the character during this month)
C. No ordinance weapons
D. No vehicles with sum of armor of 33 or higher (front + side + rear)
E. Everything can hold or contest objectives

Please give me any assistance you can.

Okay so, you cant use any of the necron vehicles because of the AV33...

This is what i came up with: 490 points

HQ:
Necron Overlord (Ressurection Orb, Sempiternal Weave) 135

Elite:
5x Deathmarks 95

Troops:
10x Necron Warrior 130
10x Necron Warrior 130

The rapid fire snipers are really strong at this point level i imagine (especially if they wound on 2+)

and 2x 10 warriors (you could make it 20 warriors) wont die fast (especially with the resurrection orb)

Wait, Space Marines can't use Drop Pods or Dreadnoughts? Necrons can't use any vehicles? And yet, Orks can still bring Dakkajets and mow down anything that didn't bring AA to a 500 point game? That's... pretty dumb, really.
Oh, what's the ruling on Monstrous Creatures. Anything? Or can 'Nids bring a Tyranoffex just for fun?

The list moffl3 posted looks good, though I'd find somewhere to spend those last 10 points. Can't that get you another warrior?

all it could get you would be a warscythe, or something like that, but i dont think you really want to get into close combat. (warriors are 13 points each)

If he wanted to do a scarab farm, id suggest:

Troops:
5x Necron Warrior 65

Fast Attack:
7x Canoptek Scarab Base 105
7x Canoptek Scarab Base 105

Heavy Support:
2x Canoptek Spyder (1 with twin linked particle beamer) 125
2x Canoptek Spyder 100

total: 500

Necrons can still use their fliers, and other vehicles depending on what your interpretation of the shield rule is. Remember though, if this is a real escalation league whatever he takes now he will be stuck with for the rest of the league.

no they cant, it says in his opening post: no armor 33 or above (combined) 11 + 11 + 11 is 33, all necron vehicles have 11 all around at least

Yes I see that. I was ref. combat patrol rules. Because that is what this is basically.

This. The deathmarks, especially two units, will be excellent for popping in Deep Strike and laying down the hurt on troublesome units (love my deathmarks). When they do come in mark two different units with their individual Hunters from Hyperspace, and then both units wound either enemy unit on a 2+. I like a 20 model unit of warriors over the two smaller units. For some reason they seem to take more advantage of RP and the Res Orb when in larger blobs. I would probably throw on the Warscythe with the remainder of your points even if you don't INTEND on resorting to CC. That Overlord can surprise you and really turn the tide in CC if you need him to. This is basically what my 500 point list looks like, but with slightly less warriors and the option of an AB/CCB (which I know he can't use). Go Necron fury!
