Hi Guys

I am looking at starting a good army now.

Has anyone got, and can point out pros/cons for the following armies:

Hobbits

great eagles

Ents

Or should i stick with a more popular choice like men, elves or dwarves?

As requested:

Hobbits-they're pretty good at shooting, but there are almost no models for the army.

Great Eagles-powerful, but again, almost no model choices.

Ents-same as the Eagles.


Basically, for all of these armies, they suffer from virtually no models being made. There's very little variety, which IMO at least, makes them pretty boring.

The reasons that men, elves and dwarves are more popular is because they provide a lot of different models, which allow for more customized armies, different strategies and unit combinations that suit your play style.

If you like a lot of high defense figures who are durable, try the dwarves. If you like armies featuring a lot of ranged attack capability and high fight value, choose the elves. If you want a balance between the two, go with men.

The lack of models does't worry me too much, Its the more of no one else uses them that did.

There are already a few dwarf and elves armies at my flgs so i wanted to do something different.

The idea of fielding 60+ hobbits in a 500 point game is lolz, or doing a giant eagle/ent rush on someone too.

If you've got the money for it and are entertained enough by the idea, then sure, why not?

The only problem I can foresee is a small number of captains to use in warbands. Upon further inspection, for a Hobbits list, you do have Sam, Frodo and Gandalf on cart to use as captains, but that's it, unfortunately. Since you can't double up on named heroes, you'd be stuck fielding 36 Hobbits at most, if you took all 3 of them and led a warband with each.

Wanderers in the Wild have it easier. They get Bilbo, Treebeard, Tom Bombadil/Goldberry and Bullroarer Took. And they have Ents, Giant Eagles and Wildmen of Druadan, which are pretty decent troops choices. It'd be amusing to see Bilbo leading 5 Ents into battle.

hobbit heros are: Frodo, sam, merry, pippin and paladin took. The others are not able to lead warbands. no Gandalf in the shire forces (in free peoples sourcebook)

It works out as around 65 hobbits for 500 points

inc 20 archers
and 4 heroes on ponies (though 1 can't fight)

They hate Aussies.Its a scientific fact.If you go one the one ring it says what's gone.

i called customer support.

I was told that there may still be some in the Aussies wearhouse. So i can send them en email to see if they really do.

The mounted hobbits are discontinued otherwise.

wow. I might have to check it out before people snap them up. Were not hobbit fans down here in Australia apparently.

well its just mounted heroes that are gone.But playing hobbits is very bad for your wallet.Why?Metal horde army.
If you get ents you have infantry lawnmowers that can throw most monsters.

This will be my first army. Ents a good choice?

Well the Australia warehouse does have some metal Hobbits left, Including the mounted models.
