Hi everyone, I am a HUGE/MASSIVE Star Wars nut , and i keep seeing the X-Wing game pop up, in so many different places, that its not even funny anymore . The first time i saw the game, was at a big game store in the area i live, but then once i went to other places it just kept popping up, and now, im getting a trickling in my mind that i should get the game, and try it out, and see what the whole deal is, but i have so many other hobbies, and games i love to do, its hard to not to kill my wallet. but my question really is- should i buy the regular boxed game, and another x-wing so its like a 2 x-wings on 2 TIE fighters battle? or should i just roll with the ships i get in the boxed game?

I'd try to get a couple extra ships, if you can find them. If you aren't looking at getting crazily into it, pick up one of each of the small ships (6 boosters+core). That'll run you $130 by retail price and give you lots of choices. If you can handle a little more, grab one of each big ship too. That'll give you lots of options and you won't get stuck playing the same game each time.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

A cheap way to just get started is 2x starters. Gives you 2 rebels, 4 Imperials, and all the tokens, dice and templates you need. then just grab one of everything for variety, focusing on your favorite ships.

It is important to note that one-on-one matchups do not work well- Rebel Ships are generally better than Imperials, so the Imperials compensate with numbers.

ok,so the core set, and some other ships like an A-wing, or y-wing should work well? and maybe a millenium falcon?

Honestly... Start with 2 core sets... and then proceed to buy ALL THE THINGS... Because you'll want to.

Wedge is nasty, you should try to find an X-Wing booster, just for him. An A-Wing works well too, and Push the Limit is one of the best pilot skill cards you'll find (comes with A-Wing).

Also, with the exception of Wedge or maybe Horton (Y) or Tycho (A), most imperial named pilots can stand up to a 1-on-1 matchup. A semi-skilled Imp should be able to stay out of a rebels fire arc at all times. I'm not gonna call myself a pro at all, and I haven't lost a 1-on-1 as an Imp yet.

pretty much this, buy 2 core sets to get everything you need get going, then play a few games, then accept that fact that xwing owns your soul and frantically start searching for MOAR ships to buy

X-Wing is a great table top miniatures game that you will probably love playing.

But if you don't believe me, just buy one starter set. You can get one online for about $26.

If you do believe me, then go ahead and get two starter sets as suggested above -- but also get one expansion pack of the X-Wing, A-Wing, or Y-Wing and one expansion pack of the TIE Fighter or TIE Advanced. With just those eight ships you will be able to build a variety of Rebel and Imperial lists.

Just get one boxed set to start with and play a few games. Once you've gotten the hang of it I'd suggest a 2nd core set. It's the cheapest way to get additional Tie-Fighters and X-wings and you will need those extra tokens.
