Well as the title suggests im having issues with GW metallics from the newest GW paint line. I bought leadbelcher, sycorax bronze, golden griffon, and screaming bell about 3-4 months ago if that, and have been storing them (as I do with all my paints) in an air tight plastic container within a desktop draw. However I have taken the pots out and checked them only to find them like a paste like sludge, similar to toothpaste. It is as if the medium has totally separated from the paint (somehow) evaporated and left only the paint pigment behind. Whats also weird is that the paint pot smells similar to methylated spirits?

Can anyone tell me what is going on? because im considering switching paint lines after paying 24$ for 4 paint pots that are ruined within a few months..

:(

If they are toothpaste thick, they are dried out. That would imply that the jar wasn't completely closed. It is possible that paint components separates and settles on the ground of the jar, but then there should be clear fluid on top of it. What you can do with dried or split paint is mix it with airbrush thinner or destilled water and see if it gets back to a nice consistency.

If the paint smells off, there could be a chemical problem with something getting into the paint or missing from the paint rendering it with a short and unstable shelf life. I had a shop manager grab a paint pot at the cash register before which he tought looked funny. He then proceeded to open and smell the paint before declaring it not ok for sale. I don't know what's going on there, but it might be worth a try to take your funny smelling paint jars to the shop and making a sad face. It could work. =]

Two of the pots had clear liquid on the top of them, I gave them shake then added some water and shook them again but it didnt do anything. The paint seems to want to stay at a crummy consistency, I will take them into my local FGS and get the manager to smell the pots
because it does smell like a chemical problem.

cheers for the input
