What would be a good army list for the 2 factions that are not included in the 2 player battle box (Trollbloods and Skorne) that would be comparable to the lists included?

I'm going to get the 2 player box as an intro to the game, and want to try out all armies before I decide who I want to go with. I intend to buy the battle groups for the other two, plus a few extra figures to even it out.

I understand changing the main caster guy will change how the army plays. The main thing is that the armies are roughly equivalent in power to each other.

Thanks!

If you want to stick to the core concept of "battlegroup plus heavy infantry" then trolls would probably add the new warders unit and skorne would likely add incidiarii. You may want to substitute one of the troll impailers for a dire troll mauler as well. The troll box comes without a heavy, and that makes it play differently. The only issue with that substitution is the points balance is thrown off a bit.

Yes, I think that is what I am looking to do. I'm not familiar with Hordes (or Warmachine) so I don't know what the types of units are called. But I think you nailed what I am going for right there.

From what I understand it isn't an exact points to points ratio in the 2 player box, or is it? I always thought these starter boxes were "close enough" type deals. Please correct me if I am wrong.

There is generally only a 1 point difference between the box armies. Circle half is 20, Legion is 21. For WM the Protectorate is 21, and Khador is 20.

NOVA

Actually, Trollbloods battlebox -Axer + DTM +Warders (new unit) is 21 as well. I'd probably drop an impaler and keep the axer, but the other way around is a little more even points-wise.

Alright, thanks for the quick replies!

So is the consensus that for the Skorne and Trollbloods the best lists are

Skorne battlegroup + Cataphract Incindiarii

Trollbloods battlegroup - Axer + Dire Troll Mauler + Warders

?

I think Skorne would add the Arcuarii instead

and honestly, as a heavy cataphract player. Who regularly lists Arcuarii, Incindiarii and Cetrati

I would PREFER to have Arcuarii vs other heavy infantry and beasts

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

Interesting. thanks for the response.

So what are the differences between them, and why would you prefer one over another?

Also what about the Immortals instead? They look pretty cool...

Incindiarii have aoe guns that set enemies on fire, this weapon is essentially designed to kill large amount of infantry
Arcuarii have single target guns that pull their target to them then gives them a free swing with their melee weapon, in addition Arcuarii are weapon masters, meaning they roll an extra die when determining damage

Note I regularly field both, but if I KNOW that every army I fight will be heavy infantry + beasts, I would definitely prefer Arcuarii

Immortals are very interesting, I doubt there are many infantry with their unique stats in any other army... but their usage is either narrow or requires specific support
They have great armor, magic weapons and most importantly VENGENCE! (very powerful rule that lets them walk up and attack next turn if one of their own is killed)

however they basically they need an Ancestral Guardian solo nearby to truly function properly... and Ancestral Guardian solos kinda of really want Extoller solo nearby... and both Ancestral Guardians and Extollers kinda of really want living infantry (which Immortals are not)...

Now, If you are using Zaal, he absolutely loves this chain of desires... every other caster finds it a little... stressful

That is true but remember, we are not list tailoring to the battlebox meta, only building alternatives.
I initially said incidiarii because they add ranged attacks to the skorne set, teach the use and value of combined ranged attack in a fun way, and teach aoe deviation.

It comes down to which unit Phobos likes the most really. If the incidiarii guns look dumb it's a simple option to take acuarii instead.

Thanks guys for the great info.

I ended up with the Incindiarii mostly due to looks. I figure I can just get ahold of the stat card for the other guys and use them as "counts as" to see if I like how they play.

I also got a set of Immortals because they were on sale for $35 lol.
