Like it says, been a good 4-5 years since I gamed 40K - lots of 3rd and 4th ed, only a couple games of 5th. So for my part there was a lot of re-learning of old rules, and becoming familiar with new ones. Originally built as a Kult of Speed from ye olde Codex: Armageddon, I had a good run with a 1500pt mobs of trukk boyz, and was curious to see how they've aged. Only thing I really added, was had to tweak the Nobz (no more mixed meganobz with the regular ones, eh?), dropped the buggies and warbikes I had to field some deffkoptas I got from some old AoBR sets, and neuter the Zzap gun off the Battlewagon, since it isn't auto-hit anymore. Oh yeah, and a blob of shoota boyz, because why not

(Apologies for the lengthy intro, just giving some context for the list):

HQ:

Big Mek, KFF (In Battlewagon w/ Boyz)

Warboss (Warlord) w/ the works: Attack Squig, Twin-linked Shoota, Power Klaw, 'Eavy Armor, Cybork (with his Nobz)

Troops:

Shoota Boyz x30, Big Shoota x3, Nob w/ Boss Pole/Power Klaw

Boyz x19, Big Shoota x1, Nob w /Boss Pole/Power Klaw (deployed into Battlewagon)

Boyz x12, Big Shoota x1, Nob w/ Boss Pole/Power Klaw, Trukk w/ Big Shoota, Red Paint Job, Reinforced Ram, Boarding Plank

Boyz x12, Big Shoota x1, Nob w/ Boss Pole/Power Klaw, Trukk w/ Big Shoota, Red Paint Job, Reinforced Ram, Boarding Plank

Boss' Nobz x6, all 'Eavy Armor, x4 Big Choppas, x2 Power Klaws, Waaagh! Banner, Painboy w/ orderly, Trukk w/ Big Shoota, Red Paint Job, Reinforced Ram, Boarding Plank

Fast Attack:

Deffkoptas x3, Twin-linked Rokkits x3

Deffkoptas x3, Twin-linked Rokkits x3

Heavy Support:

Battlewagon, Red Paint Job, Grot Riggers, Deff Rolla, Armor Plates, Big Shoota x3

Looted Wagon, Red Paint Job, 'Ard Case, Boom Gun

My opponent chose to field a Eldar army sans flier for my benefit (he threw together a 2000 pt list, and dropped a Crimson Hunter to bring it down around 1850) and we ended up rolling The Emprah's Will on Vanguard deployment with Night Fight first turn. I got first deployment/turn which proved to be very good for me. When the dust settled, we had ended up a dead tie (both killed the other's Warlord, I had Linebreaker, he had First Blood, and we each sat on our objectives we started with). Good luck and bad both ways, good old Orky times with a Trukk mob owning a flank on their own, killing a Guardian Jetbike squad with his attached Farseer on jetbike was pretty awesome - and some bad luck like the Boom Gun annihilating my (fortunately empty) Battlewagon

I'd like to add in some lootas, and a Dakkajet at some point. The Deffkoptas were alright, their Outflank move helped me deal with some rear armor on his skimmers but overall underwhelming. I think the warbikes need to come back; not sure I want them with Nobz on them - thats a lot of teef in one unit!

Whatcha dakkanauts think? Did I squeak by on pure Gorky blessings or is there something to this old greenskin list?

If you're going to run koptas, I'd run 5 but they are expensive abd add you said under whelming. Dropping them all would grant you a nice squad of lootas or two dakkadakka jets or 1 and a sq. Of lootas.

You could drop the non sq. Fir a bike sq. Though I recommend you bring a full 12. Though they are more of a support
unit at that point , still very useful.

You'll find I'm sure, that your spending a lot of extra points in truck abilities, that you're rarely using or putting the trucks in dangerous situations to get the most out of their abilities. But when you do get the chance to use them it's a lot of fun.

Lootas are okay
Warbikers in Groups of 9 I have found to be usefull
Deffkoptas a group of 5 is usefull ..
Lootas ..Groups of 5, 9 or 15 ...
DakkaJets..Okay can be devastating if they get to shoot on a waagh turn otherwise..ehh
Looted Wagons have been so so for me (rarely getting to be used prior to them being popped)

Including one was a last-minute decision to fill out my list - it actually hung in there to turn 6 and attracted a healthy amount of anti-transport fire, only for having that STr 8 AP 3 pie plate (which did bupkis, besides blow up my own Battlewagon). It was better when I could use it as a Basilisk, so I think this will probably get the heave-ho, along with one of the deffkopta squadrons.

So with Nob warbikes, does anyone bother with big choppas, or just stick to standard gear and throw in a PK or two?

I like big choppas because the +2 strength. At least with my bikers a squad of 10 costs so much why not max it out !
