This is less of a proposed rule more of a "why the f*@k is this not allowed

Why cant C:CSM and C:SM ally with oneanother? I understand that they are enemies but what about renegades? Space marines turn to chaos all the time! We see this written all over how more and more marines fall to chaos yet for some reason we cannot write a list that represents this! I mean yeah you coukd just use C:CSM and only take marines and tanks, but what about all the other marine units that fall to chaos?

I think you should be able to write a list with a daemon prince leading an army of berzerkers and defilers with allied renegade space marine captain leading his TH/SS terminators, landspeeders and marines in drop pods. Fluff wise it makes sense....

What do you guys think? Am I missing something?

I guess it is more of a balance issue as you would be getting the best of best worlds so to speak.

I do agree that it should be allowed because of the background. I would suggest allies of convenience at best though.

Fluff-wise I can see where you're coming from. Gameplay wise, I can't see it working. Imagine a unit consisting of Abaddon, Lysander, and a bunch of TH/SS Termies. While it wouldn't work in the fluff, it'd be one hell of a death star unit. Maybe a small detachment of Desperate Allies with severe unit restrictions, nothing more.

I agree. Obviously it can't simply be "the SM Codex may only be used to represent Loyalists", because the fact that IG and CSM can ally remains.

Don't apply logic to the allies matrix, though. Sure, there might be some to be found (in the power thing), but it isn't worth it.

This would have to be introduced in a Supplement. Personally, I think a "Renegades" supplement or "Red Corsairs" would be brilliant, with Marines as Battle Brothers that can't use special characters from EITHER codex (except Huron potentially.)
