I have not played mini games in years and recently decided that I needed a new hobby to keep myself distracted from kids. Just around this time I learned of the Robotech Kickstarter. I had to get a piece of that and put in more and more until I was in for more than $500. Call it mid-life crisis if you will but I needed something just for me. So I dusted off my old battletech minis and decided I'd paint them up since they have been sitting in the garage since I was 18 and of course I could have used my old cardboard maps but I wanted to make my own playing table. I decided that the old battletech minis would be good practice before my Robotech ones show up.

So one month and around $150 later here is what my table looks like.
http://www.robotechgamecenter.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=208

Once I finished that I had to start a game or two so I obsessively looked for paper stand-ins for the minis and created stats based on what I knew of the RRT rules and from the Tactical Briefings. You can find those stats here.
https://drive.google.com/?tab=wo&authuser=0#folders/0B0VSNzmthd1vSUhEWklpejNwb2s

I started my first game and there are play by plays here.
http://www.robotechgamecenter.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=272

Now I decided to start a second game which you can find here!
http://www.robotechgamecenter.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=287

There are several pics that walk you through a lot of it. Enjoy.

Looks very nice! I myself went in on the kickstarter but at just the blitzkrieg level plus two addons. I too have a cityscape set that I plan on playing both Heavy Gear and Robotech on when it comes out but it looks like you went more than a step further! Did you go to Gencon and/or are you using the rules presented there or the ones posted in the KS?

Also, we have a Robotech Macross Track (the title under your username) in case you're interested (just click on your name above, edit profile, choose a ranking track). Either way, welcome to dakka. Most of the Robotech centered conversation happens in the thread we started to follow the Kickstarter below but feel free to start other like this one.

Talizvar also put up a useful compilation thread for Robotech game resources as well.

Might as well post the text here.

UEDF Operation Snakebite Briefing 19:45 Hours Sept 19th, 2019. Brasilia Base

Tacsit>
A force believed to affiliated with the Malcontent force known as "The Shroud" has take over the town of Itaituba approximately 1400 miles North of the base. The force has taken prisoner approximately 10 UEDF officers. It is suspected that these officers were part of operation Head Hunter. Rumor have spread in the recent months that a high level commander that used to serve under Dolza survived Armageddonfall and has become the new head of Shroud forces. UEDF intelligence forces were sent to ascertain the validity of this claim and to report back the information to command. Communications were lost with the forces of operation Head Hunter at approximately 10:20 this morning. At present there are UEDF ground forces hiding within Itaituba and providing intelligence to command. Most of the civilian population has left the city and fled downstream to Santarem.

Opfor>
Intelligence estimates opposition to number 18-24 battlepods plus support. Command believes that this could be a move to test UEDF forces resolve with recent conflict with the Southern Cross. Estimates of Shroud forces number in at around 90 Battlepods, 8 Glaug's, and 5 Recon Pods. They are also known to have a full squadron of operational Gnerls and another of Male Power Armor. Intelligence has also spotted an Artillery Squadron less than 100 miles from Itaituba in the last week with Shroud markings. Extreme caution is to be used as this assault could also be a trap for UEDF forces and an attempt to humiliate the UEDF and increase this new commanders prestige with Malcontent forces. The prisoners are being guarded by a Recon Squadron known as the Dark Shroud and are elite pilots but are known for their bloodthirstiness and it is expected that they will leave their post to attack UEDF forces once the assault begins.

Operational Plan>
The plan of engagement includes 4 force groups. Strike force Alpha commanded by Captain Marcus Jacobs, consisting of a full reinforced company of Destroids, is to enter in the Southeast Edge of town near the location of the prisoners and is tasked with trying to draw Shroud forces out of the city limits. Once confirmation is made that Shroud forces are moving out to take on Strike Force Alpha they will signal Rescue Force Bravo. Bravo does not carry any heavy weapons but are hidden within city limits with civilian vehicles. Bravo will follow a designated route to where the prisoners are held and work to free them and take them safely out of the city. Gamma and Delta forces lead by Lieutenant Maria Villanueva and Drake Coleman, two Valkyrie squadrons from the 102nd Wing also know as the Flying Serpents will be on standby in Trairao just a few miles due south of Itaituba. If Shroud forces do not leave their prisoners and Rescue force Bravo cannot achieve their objective then Gamma and Delta will be called in to fly past enemy lines and secure the area where the prisoners are held. At that point they will cover the actions of Bravo and cover their escape as they leave the city limits. Epsilon and Theta may be called in if required but will take a few minutes to arrive as they are watching the river upstream for enemy reinforcements. Epsilon is the command element of the 102nd wing and Theta are part of the local UEDF forces and consist of a Close Combat and Area Denial squadrons.

Rules of Engagement>
The city is likely to still have civilians and extreme caution and care is to be take to ensure the safety of all civilians and civilian property.
Enemy fire may to be returned as long as civilian safety is not in jeopardy.
Missile fire into the city proper is to be limited to units within 1200 feet from the riverfront.

Special Rules
on a roll of a 5 or 6 the Black Shroud Squadron will leave the prisoners and join the attack. Black Shroud pilots all have +1 Gun and +1 Pil.

If after 5 turns the Black Shroud has not started leaving the prisoners Gamma and Delta are called in and arrive after 2 turns.

If any UEDF force loses half of it's number then Epsilon and Delta may be called in. Epsilon will arrive 2 turns later and Theta will arrive D6 +2 turns later.

Bravo forces mechanized infantry (the ones on motorcycles) move 8 inches a turn. The armored troopers move 2 per turn. The 10 Armored troopers have rocket launchers that have a range of 8 inches and they do 2 MDC each and they have a Pil of 1and Gun of 2. Any unit that falls within 12 inches to a Recon Pods is are spotted on a roll of 4+
If within LOS of a Battlepod they are spotted on a roll of 6+ if the Battlepod's squadron is in combat and a 4+ if not.

Each Bravo unit will take 1 MDC for each of the 10 cycles in the group.

That table is a whole lot of character and effort (love the washers used to weigh it all down... idea stolen!).
Please add anything you have come across to help others with 6mm terrain (link at my Robotech list) or just plain gaming ideas (thanks for the plug warboss!)
I find that thread helpful to add to as easy point of reference, I was also getting tired of forgetting where I saw cool Robotech stuff.

I have the Cityscape pack, I was VERY lucky I had a pipe spring a pinhole leak and sprayed my workbench, in a day or two the buildings would have been there and ruined.

I bought three packs of qty 15 6mm vehicles (45 total, may not be enough...).

I bought Showdown with some 6 add-ons so hopefully I will not suffer overload when I get them.

I too have a couple kids and midlife crisis is not out of the question, Robotech got me into the stomping robots and I played Rifts by Palladium with the Robotech add-ons so it is nice to buy from them again. I played a ton of Battletech so it is good to be able to use some of the 6mm stuff.

May have to start a campaign to get Palladium to hire you to write the scenario fluff for them.

Thanks Talizvar! It's been so long since I played that my skills at painting have waned but at least I could spend time this summer honing my table creation skills. This is the first time I ever tried and I just took it step by step not knowing how I wanted it to turn out till the end. I never thought I'd have as much as I do on this table! One thing just grew into the next and now you see the resutls. Hopefully this will help others do something similar. The top goal was something elegant but also something that can be picked up and packed away when the time comes. I'm very happy with the final product. My wife, who is not a gamer of any type, not even monopoly, has actually shown my table to her friends with pride when they come over for a visit.

I only managed this when I made a diorama of Legolas from Lord of the Rings, keeps it at her desk at work.
Any other efforts still equal "toys" in her or her friend's minds so I am glad you are getting some dividends from all that effort even if it was primarily made for your enjoyment.
It is great you getting these pictures out there, it motivates others.
I figure I got control on the terrain thing but when the minis come out we will be model slaves for a few months.

2. UEDF Red Star Fire Support Unit retaliates. The Phalanx fires at the Officers with 4 missiles while the Defender takes on a Battlepod. UEDF uses a command point to rapid fire the defender. The 4 missiles need a 6 to hit and not a single one strikes the target. The Defender on the other hand hits with both shots shredding the Battlepod. There is no way for it to survive unless it can dodge and it fails at that. Boom. One less Battlepod.

3. The Zen players moves up to take on the enemy before they can fire back and its Artillery Squadron with support move up. A heavy Artillery pod is in range. At this point I stop. I haven' figured out what I want to do with the Blast weapons yet.

Option 1
1. All units in blast radius hit and have a -1 to dodge rolls

2. All units in blast radius hit normally.

3. All units in blast radius hit and have a -1 to dodge rolls, blast markers may shift on the roll of a 1 or 2. Roll D6 for direction as marked on the blast counter with the 1 pointing in direct line from the attacker for the target. Roll D6 or 2D6 for distance

Just a few ideas. Help! Suggestions?

For those who are interested, through a weird twist of fate my wife's flight was cancelled and I am forced to stay home till she can fly in which will likely not be till late tonight. It also means I can do a lot of playing in that time. So I had a thought. I'll take a little over an hour to clean things up a bit and make the beds. Cool report! Are you using the same rules variant as in the gencon video. posted today or one based on the earlier version of the rules as presented during the kick starter?

Made in us
Longtime Dakkanaut

I used the preview rules and the pictures of the stat cards to start off.

I then used stats from somebody else based off the RPG mech stats to stat up the mechs.

After that I then used the UEDF and Zen tactical briefings flesh out the units some more.

Using all of these was the only way to come up with the rules.

I'll alter the game slightly with what I learned watching the video.

Idea is to have rules as close to what they actual rules will be as possible.

Cool, keep posting links and/or the turns. I'm personally waiting until the final rules are posted (if ever) before doing anything with them. I've got some reservations about what has already been previewed so I definitely need more info to make an informed decision on whether I like them or not.

So I figured out what I wanted to do to when using artillery. First I would roll to hit my target location needing a 5+ to hit the exact spot. Since the battlepods had a scout nearby and the gunnery of the Heavy Artillery is a 1 the heavy artillery pod only needed a 3+ in order to place the missile right on target. Once you hit the units in the radius may attempt to dodge with a -1 penalty. If the unit is on the edge of the radius there is no penalty for the dodge roll. The missiles have a 5 inch blast radius. The fact that the missiles have a blast radius and have the blast trait the missile's targets cannot roll with the impact from the missile blast. In essence the missiles create a 5 inch blast area where it is hard dodge the attack and impossible to roll with the impact to reduce the damage taken. In my mind this is a little backwards but that is how I think it is written for the actual game rules so I will go with it.

Now before we go on I have to explain that I added a few trees and it changed the LOS. I know this is a big no no once you start a game but I just felt like putting them out all at once. So the LOS was blocked so I shifted the target over to two other destroids. A good thing for the UEDF because now only 2 units are going to be in the blast radius and not 4.

Both units attempt to dodge and fail taking 9 damage each.

The Glaug shoots at a Tomahawk and hits it for 6 points of damage.

Oh and I had to show off my new blast marker.

The UEDF silver star squadron, a fire support squadron fires before they can be destroyed with the Phalanx firing 4 missiles at the Glaug and the defender firing on the Pod. All 4 missiles miss the Glaug. The defender on the other hand shreds the Battlepod.

The Zentraedi Elite Recon Squadron moves up and the Glaug is the only unit in range. The Glaug fires on a Tomahawk that is part of the Blue Star squadron and hit is doing 6 points of damage leaving it with 4 points left.

The UEDF Gold Star move up and fire on a Battlepod. Both shots hit for 8 points each. The Pod fails to dodge and goes up in a blaze of glory.

Time to refill command points as a new turn is about to get going. Both sides roll 2D6 for initiative and the UEDF rolls a 7 while the Zentraedi player rolls an 8.

The Zen player decides to move the attack squadron that is engaged before they get taken apart. The Pods don't move in order to take advantage of their focused fire trait and the accuracy trait on their particle cannons. Two pods focus on a damaged Tomahawk. One PC hit and both secondary weapons make their strike rolls. The Tomahawk spends a command point and attempts to dodge but rolls a 1. The 3 attacks would normally do 4, 2, and 2 points damage but the UEDF rolls 3 times spending 3 command points and takes only 4 damage and is left with 7 points of damage.

The Glaug take on both of his opponents. The Zen forces spend one command point to fire an additional weapon system and fires the arm cannons at the nearly dead defender (2 points left) and the severely damaged Phalanx. Both shots hit and the UEDF player cannot dodge the Charged Particle Cannon that hit the Phalanx or roll against the attack due to its inescapable and overwhelming traits. The defender tries to dodge and fails. The Glaug chalks up two kills in one round.

The UEDF moves the nearly dead Tomahawk. He turns to face the two battlepods. The UEDF player spends a command point to allow him to fire two weapon systems. He fires missiles at one pod and the particle cannons at another. Only one missile misses. The dodge roll fail and both pods go up as the Tomahawk is able to taste some revenge for his fallen comrades.

The UEDF moves the remaining Tomahawks in Gold Star and they move to intercept the approaching artillery squadron. They both shoot at Light Artillery Pod that they see on the bridge in the distance and make their strike rolls. The pod rolls a 6 and miraculously escapes unscathed.

The Zen player starts moving his artillery squadron up some more.

I found the digital camera of great use when I can't stick my head in between buildings and multiple units and am unsure of the LOS.

He LAP, aka, Light Artillery Pod on the bridge is too far and is just outside of range at 27 inches and the missiles have a range of 24.

The Heavy Artillery Pod fires on a visible Defender and Tomahawk

The Telnesta on a rooftop fires on a defender

The Glaug fires on a defender with partial cover

The HAP's missile strikes a defender and a Tomahawk and kills the Defender after it fails a dodge but the Tomahawk rolls a 6 to dodge and escapes unscathed. The UEDF player spent 2 command points to allow both units to dodge.

The UEDF move Blue Star up and get ready to take on the remaining forces of the Zen Attack Squadron. A friendly Tomahawk blocks the LOS of the Tomahawk but the Defender can see a Battlepod through the trees and takes it out.

UEDF Veritechs move up and are out of range to shoot anybody.

The Zen Elite Recon Squadron moves to intercept and fire all over the place at the veritechs. The veritechs manage to dodge all the fire except the VF-1J which is targeted by the Glaug and takes 6 points of damage.

The UEDF cycles and infantry had moved up but remain unnoticed by the Zen forces.

The remaining veritech squadron moves up
