Hi! I ma a new player and i would like to start collecting the space marines as a first army. I allready got the 8€, 3 space marines pack, to start painting. (Never painted miniatures before). I allready have some citadel paintbrushes, tough.
But anyway, I have two questions.
Question number one: since I am allready planing on painting my space marines as the mentor chapter, I would like to know what colors to buy and with what color to initially spray them (I've seen this on YouTube).
Question number 2: if anybody knows a video, website that shows step to step how to paint from the basics, please tell me!!!
Also, sorry for my errors ,but I am not very used to taking and writing in English.
Thanks!!!

Hi there, Since this is the first time you are painting miniatures, I'd say keep it as simple as possible. Start with a white undercoat (for example Skull White spray). For the green, I would use Caliban green. It's a base paint so it covers really well. For the metal parts use Leadbelcher. This is also a base paint. I would also suggest to get some black (Abbadon Black) and red (Mephiston Red or Khorne Red). You always need some black and the red is for the eyes. Finally, for the gold, you could get 'Balthasar Gold'. You could then use a so called 'Shade' to give the paint job more depth. The way this shade works is that you apply it to the recesses on the model and it automatically goes into the places where you would expect the model to be darker/shaded. This is a very easy way to achieve such an effect. The shade I would use for this is called 'Nuln Oil' and it is a black shade. Apply it to the recesses on the Marine e.g. around the knee pads or on the shoulder pads. Shading can be quite messy (especially when you are new to painting) so I would suggest that you also get some 'Ceramite Wite'. This is a white base paint which you can use to touch up any of the white areas you shaded by accident. I don't know any specific videos that explain how to pair Mentor Legion Marines, but Youtube always is a good source for tips and tricks for painting. Just search for 'Painting miniatures beginner tips' or something along those lines. I'm sure you will find something useful. Oh, and make sure to post your results! Hope this helps.

If you want a really bright white you could painting it with VGC dead white and shading with VGC blue ink. Then highlight back up to dead white.

The Army Painter Matt white might be good, I used their Dark angel green spray for my chaos, and have nothing but praise for it. The paint is expensive though, about 11 euros a can, and then 6 euros shipping, but that was to the UK so you might get it cheaper.
A dark green is best on that spray as it really lightens up the paint.
As a new painter unless you have a steady hand it is hard to do edge highlights, as such I would recommend washes.
A VERY THIN wash of Drakenhof Nightshade into the crevices in the armour.
And when I say thin I mean thin you are going to want to whip most of the wash off on a tissue prior to putting it into the armour lines.
Then get some white paint and get it down to very thin on the brush, then cover any spillages with the white paint.
that should get the white done quite well.
as for the green I don't know about that.
For the last 2 years now I have only used Washes and dry brushing to get good results on my minis (any attempt at line highlights has failed horribly) so this is an easy way to get into painting detail.
also 1 final tip try to maximise the number of colours on the model, so instead of only using Leadbelcher use Leadbelcher and Gold on some other part of the model. For instance on the space marine chest plates paint the wings silver and the skull gold.

Check out the new GW painting guide, it's great for beginners. There might be an eBook version too:

The free version includes instructions on how to paint White Scars Tactical Marines, so that might help you with painting white power armour.
