yes, it is a good book to start.What force are looking at playing? It is especially good for American tankers not so much for the German Armor.

i was thinking of playing the 7th armoured by buying the army in a box and then adding 2 comps of mech rifles

It's a pretty good stating point for US tanks - if you check the official FoW forum in the tactics section 'gothmog' has done a brilliant list from this book and is a very very good player - have a look.

B,G&G is a great book for US Tankers and Armoured Rifles. Also the army deal and 2 boxes of Armoured Rifles is a very good starting place.

The only thing I think you may need want to add is some Cav Recon and Patton as he's a force multiplier.
