Anyone have experience working with it?

Best to use medium, mix it with grit, paint it over the sand, whatever?

Vallejo Red Oxide paste? Yeah i have it and have used it. Depends what effect you're going for. I wanted a red dirt/rock alien planet landscape for my necrons, so I added some cork bits to represent rocks, added a sprue bit to resemble a dead tree etc. It's worth mentioning that VMA Fire Red is ~100% match to the Vallejo Oxid paste which can be useful. If you prefer the texture of one of the other things below you can use that, then paint it fire red too.

It's fine to use as is if that's the effect you want. If you want another effect, by all means add other stuff to it.

I took pics a while ago of some vallejo textures wet, dry and painted/shaded, might be useful to you.

Spoiler:

Wet

Dry

Shaded

If you are doing a lot of terrain it will be cheaper to use artist's heavy body red oxide and mix it with an acrylic texture medium.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Thanks for the pics--I've painted up a few test bases, but this gives me a much wider range that what I have. I'm going for the "red, alien world" too, though I'm just starting with bases...terrain, sadly, will need to wait until I have a place with more space.
