Hey there folks, as the OP events are getting under way across the country what is your build and how is it working for you. My local store will not be holding the event until the end of the month so I am experimenting with Klingons to get ready, just love the stories behind them.

For now I am trying a daring 4 ship list with:

28 Mat'Ha
03 Nu'Daq
03 Tractor Beam

26 Vor'Cha
02 Krell
03 Tractor Beam

03 Photon Torpedoes (Klingon 4 attack kind)

I got my first game in last night with this list. I liked it. I went up against the wife who had

Enterprise-D
Picard

Enterpirse
Kirk
Uhora

Reliant
Riker
Warf
Mines

Right off the bat I sent the two Vor'cha class ships to deal with Picard. The more games I play against Picard and the Ent-D the more I believe that you have to face them 2 ships on 1. Otherwise their abilities combines get crazy. The D-7s were enough to keep the other ships off balance until the Vor'Chas were done with picard. By the end all I had left was two very crippled Vor'chas but they lived long enough to defeat the federation and limp back to Kronos, probably on impules power.

So far I am happy with how the list did I might tweak and experiment with some other weapon up grades. The tractor beams are good, but they were out of range first round and just about everyone had lost their shields by the next round so we will see if they stay in the list. I would like to squeeze either Koloth or Gawron into the list but with 4 ships they are pricey and the abilities of the Krell & Nu'Daq really came in handy several times.

I think the wife is putting too many points into captains, but she doesn't want me building her list for her. I think she may be have some Kirk shenanigans up her sleeve next time, but we shall see. We are going to try for a rematch tonight and see what happens. I also hope to get out to the game store this week so we can see what it will do against other match ups. I still want to try my 3 Romulan Warbird list, but for now its all about the klingon's.

(As the above, but I put Riker on the Enterprise because it can get up close better than the Reliant can and still survive)

There are no tricks in the above, just firepower. O'brien is probably just going to get to DS9 ASAP and drop on the station and probably bring his wife along.

Let me ask you, as you use the Reliant. If I am reading things right, Reliant has 2 attacks, from its ability it gets +1 at close range, and from the rules it gets another +1 at close range from the way the range finder is set up. So that's 4 attacks at close range, that's how we thought it worked last night. If we did it correctly I think the Reliant is a seal for 20 pts.

That's how it works, as far as I know.

Riker in the Reliant may actually be better. I forgot about the Reliant's +1 when up close.

Cool, glad someone else sees it that way. In this case I think if I could only fit one Miranda class into a list I would always find the points to take the reliant instead.

You'll notice that all named ships are only 2 points higher than their unnamed counterpart. The only reason not to take a named ship is if you're taking multiple copies- the point cost always favours the named ship over the unnamed ship.

Just managed to find an event near by and now I face the problem of coming up with a list. Do I go with my heart and play a one race simple list or my devious head and go all out nasty?

It's good to see other people's ideas I'll post my plans when I have had time to work out my options.

So the other night I had some sucess with the romulans, a Toreth 2 warbird & valdor list. It was a lot of fun, but I want to keep working with the klingons. Later this week I want to try a Klingon swarm.

The D7 is not the toughest ship but I think 5 ships might be difficult for most people to deal with, plus Gowron can make them formidable dealing out extra attacks. I'd like to keep it a pure Klingon force that is why krell is there he is good for only 2 pts, but I may consider breaking cannon and take Terell or Sar instead. Though I will test it out a few times before I make that decision. It makes sense to add in some defense but I feel klingons should be all about the attack.

I'm toying around with my list for the OP event. so far I'm pretty set on the Enterprise D. I want a 3 ship build, and I want it to be pretty aggressive (since I'm probably just going to ignore DS9 and go blow up ships.) Terell is pretty key, the Reliant is my aggressive ship and the Enterprise D will be a tank for most of the game.

Mmmm currently toying with the following nice lists

Romulan

IRW VALDORE - Donatra (34)

IRW KHAZARA - Mirok (32)

SCIENCE VESSEL - Captain, Muon feedback wave, Bochra (17)

SCIENCE VESSEL - Captain, Muon feedback wave, Parem (17)

Pro - has the advantage of numbers and muon on 1 skill captains for annoyance plus 4 units spare for DS9.

Against - four ships but two are very weak the others suffer for it.

Klingon

IKS NEGH'VAR - Martok, sabotage, Konmel

IKS MAHT-H'A - Gowron

VOR'CHA Class - Captain

Pros - fearsome firepower reasonable interdependence

Against - feels a bit all or nothing a bad roll is going to see it fall apart.
