Should I do Black or Red Tyranid (Aliens) paint scheme?
Black. Quick, easy, simple, and what people expect to see...
Red! The Genocide aliens were cool & the details would stand out!

Shade of Despair and Torment

I have assembled all the aliens/tyranids, and am ready to paint. However, I am torn between red or black aliens. Black is the traditional color, but red allows more detail. So, I could prime black, paint the aliens with some highlights, they are on deckplate bases so that will have silver and some other slight colors, base border can be red or silver....Red however, especially with red spray back, is cool. The red aliens would get a brown wash, the base border would be black, deck plates silver, the mawloc was going to be flesh with red mouth like hugger and egg sacks on terv would be flesh, so the red/flesh/brown ink look would tie in nicely.... Thoughts?

If I do go with black, I won't slack off on the painting.

Aliens, from the aliens movie, were more of a dark dark brown, with a metallic bronzing highlight. I found a painting guide in WD from Oct 2012, page 113, dakkajet engines which is perfect.

Basecoat warplock bronze, drybrush gehenna's gold, wash with agrax earthshade, wash with darkenhof nightshade, then lightly drybrush with abaddon black. Gloss coat, and Viola!

Also adding clear acrylic "slime" to all their jaws...
