Hey everyone,
I guess its a pretty straightforward question, I was looking to try something a little different than my venerable Fire Born Salamanders. One of the guys in my gaming group was kicking around a starting a 600pt "tournament", and I thought maybe giving it a go for the Great Khan could be fun and definitely different.

I guess the list wouldnt have to be 100% bikes, but per theme, there shouls probably be some lol

Any suggestions from some Chogorian vets?

So I started messing around with some ideas...

Captain, Teeth of Terra, Grav Pistol, Bike.

x5 bikes, x2 Grav Rifles,
x6 Tactical Marines, Flamer, Sgt w/ Lightning Claw, TL Lascannon Razorback

Stormtalon, Skyhammer Missles

599pts.

Any thoughts?

Not really sure what the point of the grav pistol is! 15 points that'd be better spent on ... well anything.

Given the small scale of the games/leagues you want to either go hard (2+ tanking bike character) or go fast (Khan).

Fast
Khan - 150
5 Bikes, 2 Grav, Attack Bike, Multi-Melta - 190
5 Bikes, 2 Plasma - 135
Stormtalon, Skyhammer - 125

- Deploy one squad and stay out of los till Khan, the other squad and the talon (escorting that squad) come in from reserve.

So, I'm guessing the attack bike takes the place of the las razorback and I can see more bikes being better than infantry with the mobility and T5.
Speaking of which, am I correct in thinking the 2+/4++/T5 is what you're referring to as far as taking a ton of shots?
So he rides out front and gets hit saving the other guys in the a squad he's joined?

I made an allied detachment for my UM. I was running:

Khan on Moondrakken
5 bikes, 2 plasma, attack bike w/ heavy bolter
5 bikes, 2 melta, attack bike w/ mm

That ends up being about 500 points, and it gives my shooty marines much needed mobility and gets the weapons where they need to be. It worked pretty well for me so far.

So pretty much like the list above, thats how I would go.

So, it looks like if I run:

the Khan on Moondrakken
x5 bikers w/ x2 plasmaguns, Heavy Bolter Attack Bike
x5 bikers w/ x2 meltasguns, Multi-Melta Attack Bike
Stormtalon w/ Skyhammer Missles

I end up 35pts over. This gets tricky because at a low points level like this when you start dropping things you start losing effectiveness. I could drop one Attack Bike and use the 10pts for something else, like a combi-weapon for whichever squad lost the AB.

Any further thoughts? I like the concept of being able to outflank with Khan, a bike unit AND the Stormtalon in one shot. I had forgotten about the escort rule.

600 is such a weird point limit... The storm talon is a tough fit. The only way I can see to get it in there is to drop the MM attack bike, and that puts it at 600 exactly.

Otherwise I guess you could add a MM/HF land speeder and some combis, or maybe a 5 man tac squad with a special weapon?

Yeah, I agree about the points total. Not really sure why he picked 600 instead of the more common 750, shrug

So I dropped the Multi-Melta Attack Bike, which when I add a combi-weapon to that same squad that puts it at 600 exactly.

So that would look like:

The Khan on Moondrakken

x5 Bikers w/ x2 meltas, combi-weapon
x5 Bikers w/ x2 plasma, Heavy Bolter Attack Bike

Stormtalon w/ Skyhammer Missles

Should be 600 exactly. Any further thoughts?
