I've been trying to find something that isn't a decal to use to make numbers for my IG squads (a mix of Cadian and Catachan for the most part) But my freehand isn't very good at uniformality that IG somewhat demands. (This is a Fallout 3 & New Vegas themed army) Basically want a stencil to put a yellow number pattern on the model. (Another reason my normal custom decal approach won't work as the light colors like yellow won't show up.) I need it to be small enough at least to put a 3 digit number on a cadian shoulder pad. Anyways I'm not having any luck. Despite people telling me they are out there.

You could just print and cut your own if you feel like you have a steady enough hand for the job. Save yourself some money.

Hit up your local Drafting supply store or look for Draftsman Stencils online..(not as widely available as they used to be ) and use a fine tipped paint pen or 20/0 Brush to do the numbers..

30 years ago (before computerized drafting) these were everywhere now only a few draftsmen remain that can hand draw entire projects..so the availability is less but with the net it dosent matter you can find them

You can try these as well. Dry rub on decals:

Archer are excellent, and they do have a yellow which might work for you. They come as small as 1 mm tall, which should allow you to fit 3 numbers across.

A stencil would be rather fiddly in that size and that location. Draftsman's stencils tend to be rather thick, and would be hard to lay flat and hold in place. You can get mylar ones used for fingernails fairly easily though, and those can conform to curves without much work.

Ive got a couple sets of etched stainless steel ones from Tech Star which would work as well...though again, getting them to lay flat on the curves would be a bit of a pain.

Decals are the way I have dealt with this in the past and likely would myself again...either Archer, or another company. You can browse through an insanely large collection of decals on a site like Squadron and probably find what you need.

Biggest problem about decals is the need for yellow and the fact I'd need tons on the cheap. That's why I thought a thin flexible stencil the correct size would work wonders. Because I have plenty of paint. My free hand is alright, it just wouldn't be uniform for all 100+ models I have.

The dry transfers from archer show up just fine in yellow. Trust me, order a set and try them out, they are likely exactly what you are looking for.

I don't know if he's offering numbers yet, but there is an airbrush KS thread in News & Rumors that may fit the bill if he does add numbers in:

He's taking suggestions so if you want numbers / roman numerals / etc (and have an airbrush to make use of these stencils) just post up your thoughts

the Fingernail stencils had not thought of those .gads just the thing for shoulder emblems as well ..
.or check your local (Hobby Lobby,Michaels) for small rail mounted rubber stamps ..(the tiny ones about 1/16" ) ..and just stamp the number on (may take some trial and error to get it to work just right but ehh so will anything else)
