Hey guys I could really use some help. I have played four or five games of WH 40k and have loved it. I bought a Chaos army (many years ago) and it just sits and collects dust. I'm looking to sell that set, but with that aside I really like the
feel if the Imperial Guard. I don't know jack diddily about what they do and how they act though. From the forums I've read it seems like an army I would really enjoy. Any fellow nerds out there that could help me out with how IG works and
what to expect. Specifically the battle set currently for sale, the Cadian army.

Hey, fellow Dakka newbie!

The Cadian Battleforce is a decent starting point as it gets you your mandatory two troop units and an HQ, as well as some decent supporting fire in the shape of the heavy weapons team. I've never personally played against Sentinels so I don't know how good or bad they are, but they look awesome and fun and that's the whole point in my humble opinion. As far as further additions go, I'd go for another unit of Cadians, a Chimera transport and a Leman Russ battle tank or two. My main Imperial Guard opponent spams Leman Russ Punisher tanks in lower point games as, while lacking in the anti-vehicle department, they just decimate infantry squads, even my relatively durable Space Marines.

Anyway, in short, the Cadian Battleforce seems decent as a foundation to build on. Hope I was some help!

Welcome to Dakka! Always happy to see another guard player.

The battle force is a very good buy, the only "bad" thing in it is the sentinel. I used it to test out my paint scheme.

I would suggest getting your hands on some chimeras and vendettas. Leman russes are icing on the cake.

Essentially you take your 10 man squads and throw them in the chimeras as vets (and give them cool weapons). So you have a hard hitting, mobile, durable, and scoring (perhaps most important) unit.

The vendettas are a long the same lines, and are among the best anti-armor/flyer models in the game.

Hi,
