Yo. I'm thinking up a Khorne Daemon army. I have never played Daemons and I don't yet have models, I was offered some 80 bloodletters, Skulltaker and a Soulgrinder however (is it 100% legal to use square bases in 40k btw?) I'm not adding other gods to minimize the chances of some crap happening, and for stylistic purposes. I don't want to make a bad army, but an assault based TAC army.

Some explanation on the choices :

- I hope to get the bonus survivability rewards for the BT, but most of the greater rewards seem pretty fine, and he can use either greater etherblade or blade of blood (he gets +1 A for another specialist weapon, right?). After all, it's a miracle if this guy doesn't get shot to hell before he does anything.

- I just fully decked out the Bloodletters, I figure they're pretty good close combat troops other than the fact they're infantry. I don't know if it's best to Deep Strike these guys or not.

- I just like Flesh Hounds, lotsa wounds, good speed, pretty cheap. They seem more useful than Bloodcrushers to me.

- Soulgrinders are supposed to be general purpose vehicles that can shoot at flyers, have a high strenght anti-tank shot.

- With 4 instruments I really, really wish for Wrath of Khorne

Suggestions? I'm also thinking it could be cool to play an infantry horde with more blood thrones giving those loci bonuses, or a bunch of crushers and hounds for a really fast army, or a bunch of MC's.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HQ

Bloodthirster - 2 Greater Rewards = 290

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TROOPS

2x 20 Bloodletters / Bloodreaper, Greater Reward, Instrument, Banner of Blood 2x 255
2x 20 Bloodletters / Bloodreaper, Lesser Reward, Instrument, Banner of Blood 2x 245

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FAST ATTACK

15 Flesh Hounds = 240

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ยจ

HEAVY SUPPORT

2x Soul Grinder / Khorne, Warp Gaze = 2x160

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TOTAL : 1850

Ninjaedit for awesomeness. Who likes heralds anyway when you can have more guys?

In a way, the Bloodthirster is a solo unit, he's awesome of course but other than take every anti-tank shot in the other army he doesn't have much to hope for I guess. Another way to think about this is that Heralds could boost the BL:s charge with their ability to give Rage, which in a way makes more sense than the solo hero BT. I'm not sure about the whole thing.

I made another version after reading the codex a bit more. I figured that the Greater Daemon is a good solo unit but Heralds on Blood Thrones can really boost my Khorne units, I figure re-rolling all attacks made by a unit of Flesh Hounds is more powerful than the few a BT has, also the chariots themselves can be destructive. So I have a bunch of Flesh Hounds barreling towards the enemy, Bloodletters to take objectives, while not as resilient as Plaguebearers I like that they can conceivably murder spacemarines and such in close combat and also they give me a BS5 Icarus Lascannon. Soul Grinders are the multi-purpose anti-tank, anti-air and so on vehicles of amazing, I don't think any of the god upgrades are that amazing on them so I took the one that doesn't cost anything, at least they can benefit from the Blood Thrones if I'm not mistaken. One Skull Cannon should keep hordes nice and spread out and helps charging into cover.

Herald of Khorne / Blood Throne, Exalted Reward, Locus of Wrath = 185
Herald of Khorne / Blood Throne, Exalted Reward, Locus of Fury = 180

20 Bloodletters / Bloodreaper, Lesser Reward, Banner of Blood, Instrument of Chaos = 245

10 Bloodletters / Bloodreaper = 105

10 Bloodletters = 100

2x 15 Flesh Hounds = 2x 240

2x Soul Grinder / Khorne, Warp Gaze = 2x 160

Skull Cannon = 125

Imperial Bastion, Icarus Lascannon - 110

I would highly consider running heralds on juggers to put in letter units so you can "catapult" the unit. Deep strike them with a large letter unit, then you place the herald on a far end of the unit. The large base combined with movement of them allows ur letters to get into CC very fast. I'd only recommend doing that with large units your going to grimore them.

Other then that sargs just need lesser gifts to get that pw.

And always run a thirster.... he's incredible with gifts maxed. People will just auto kill ur chariots I've found but the main use for them is to give thirsters, dps, and soul grinders loci. I don't know how ur meta is but the torrent flamer is nice to kill tau with the grinders

Doesn't the unit always move at the slowest possible speed though? I don't understand how a Jugger herald helps infantry move. I had a version where the Heralds are on juggers and run with flesh hounds, however I really like that Blood Thrones can give the bonus sfuff to everything, that they are AV12 chariots with S7 hits and an invulnerable save, and a regeneration mechanic. They can always be Deep Striked if it looks like the enemy is just going to focus them on T1.

Well, the thirster looks pretty amazing, but I'm concerned he's just going to get shot and tarpitted. I'm not so sure about this though. BT or two heralds?

I don't know how the local meta is, just the guys I play against prefer to play a bunch of vehicles and with my orks I have noticed it's impossible to destroy vehicles, what with penetrating hits only destroying on a 6 because ork weapons suck, coversaves up to 3+, all that. Considering I want to play against everything with this army, the Soul Grinders are dedicated to anti-vehicle / anti-air duties. I'm still considering a third grinder just because not even having a chance to destroy some high-firepower tank is really annoying.

Each model moves at it own speed but to stay with the unit they need to be with 2'.

And if you don't want the thirster to get tar pitted then make sure that you give him the rampage weapon so he has around 12 attacks... that will clear most things.

and I'd split your flesh hounds to three units so they don't get auto killed by mass wounds.
