I was playing wing commander over the weekend, and after having a quick look on the net for something, i found this:

Its a freespace 2 stand alone total conversion of wing commander, with updated graphics, flight controls and everything else
it plays like a dream, so if you like wing commander check it out while your waiting for Star Citizen to be released

theres alos 2 more space sims i found as well, both based on the Freespace 2 code
the first is Diaspora, based on the BSG remake:
