Okay, so I've seen people bashing on the landspeeder models before but I've never paid any attention (to my detriment now... ).  I tried dry fitting one together today and couldn't get the two main, top and bottom, pieces to fit together at all.  Any suggestions, tips, or hints to make the process a bit less painful from the vets?

Thanks,

Kevin

Yes, I can help on this one. First question, what glue are you using? I usually have the best luck with Testors glue in the black square bottle. Most good hobby shops should have it. Also, get a handful of strong rubber bands.

Anyways, you won'tt want to glue it all together in one step, it just has too much of a warp to it. First glue only the back third or so that you can get to line up without any pressure on it. Test fit it first though, and only put the glue where there is no gap at all. You should be able to do the whole engine section behind the crew. Then let it dry overnight at least to allow it to cure to full strength. Then work forward and glue another section together. If it's only mildly warped you may be able to do the rest of the speeder, if it's badly warped then just go with the middle third section of the crew compartment. After you apply the glue, wrap it with rubber bands to hold it together and let it dry overnight again. Don't make the individual ones too tight, use a bunch that aren't stressed too much, and have them cover a wide area of the model. Be careful not to crush the arch that goes over the cockpit.

Just make sure to get the first part you do as perfect as possible, if you are off even the slightest bit it will get harder and harder to correct the further forward you work. And be patient too, don't rush it.

Wow... what a pain...

Thanks Hans!  Looks like it'll be something to work on alongside my pods instead of before them.

Yeah, it can be a bit of a pain, but I've dealt with much worse. Try doing a 20" long boat hull that is split into 2 halves, and also has another two piece sub-section for the props and rudders, oh and they all warped in different directions and are slightly different sized. That one took me about 2 weeks of gluing, filling, priming and sanding to get to where I was happy with it. After a while, warped and ill-fitting parts just become another part of modelling projects and you stop getting too upset over them. But it can be very frustrating when you first experience a new type of problem.
