Colen McAlister of Lone Wolf Development puts on his brown coat and joins us in the third chair for a Firefly episode!

We aim to misbehave and talk a long spell about Firefly: The Game from Galeforce 9. Does GF9 have a sophmore slump or another fantastically themed game? Our detailed review which covers all the components and mechanics will give you enough info to decide for yourself.

But up first: Since Colen is on the show we ask him to give us an update on Lone Wolf Development. How is Realm Works coming along? And how is all that other great software doing?
All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:

- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- The Hollywood Minute
- News
- & More

Dear Russ,

I love your coining of the phrase "Beige Coat" in the Firefly review. Unfortunately you have to be awarded with the title as you followed your comment by saying the name "Jubilee".

Any true Brown Coat would know that the name is "Jubal Early ". :p

Your Browncoat friend,

Ken

P.S. Great show as always!

BBB: It's 133. I made a typo in the permalink, and now it is permawrong.

RiTides: Thanks!

Skorne: I was saying "Jubal E." ;-) (Or was I?)

Please can somebody put me out of my misery?!

I'm trying to find an old D6G episode that had a segment on 'smack talk' on it. When I describe what little of it that I can remember to you you'll see why my google fu has failed me.

I can only remember snippets - Something about 'the cake of pain' 'in the kitchen of despair' ? Or some such. I'm pretty sure that I’m not going as crazy as I sound. Though I have been known to be wrong.

Regards,
Mark.

Ok, you guys got super excited about a new audible book, and I thought it was a horus heresy thing, but I can't seem to find it now. I need something new to listen to. What was it you were starting to get excited about?

Thanks, guys, as always!

That particular trash talk sounds a lot like a guy I met at my first Adepticon Team Tournament, from Colorado . . . so it would be awhile ago, like, 3 or 4 years ago, minimum. And I'm not sure we did a whole segment on it . . . so . . . good luck?

Super excited about audible: Sorry, Fix, it ain't Black Library, so no Horus Heresy. They do GREAT audio books, but they cost a FORTUNE, and most of them are shorts, rather than full length novels.

Russ and I were CRAZY excited about Abaddon's Gate (ah, there's the confusion ), which is the 'last' book in the Expanse series by James S.A. Corey. GREAT hard sci-fi set in the not-so-very-distant-future, but not much like 40K . . . although they DO have powered armor . . .

Thanks again, guys, and Happy Gaming!

~Craig

Far-stretching, endless Time
Brings forth all hidden things,
And buries that which once did shine.
The firm resolve falters, the sacred oath is shattered;
And let none say, "It cannot happen here".

Cheers Craig – I knew I wasn't imagining it – you've helped me to track down the episode where it's referenced - Ep. 29 30:59. I should be able to find it from there.

As ever you guys rock.

The episode with the Adepticon Smack talk (I think): http://www.thed6generation.com//d6g-ep-78-adepticon-2011-carson-city-detailed-review

Also, I'm at the very end of Abaddon's gate. Fantastic book, fantastic series. Go-get-it-now!!

Oh, I don't mind that it's not actually Black Library. It just sounded like it from the title. I'll check it out. Thanks guys, looks like you've got me sorted for three months worth of audiobooks!

Just finished listening, another good episode.

Firefly sounds great, except for the "Talisman" issue. Perhaps they will get that resolved at some point?

I was surprised to hear the comments that BSG had potentially the same problem. We've played that a lot and have never epxerienced that.

Thanks!

So, I'm a little late to the discussion, but wanted to sneak in before you move to the next episode. I'm not sure I would call myself a "Browncoat", but I am a Firefly fan, and was eagerly anticipating the game. I've played it twice now, and I have some...concerns.

First game was a 4-player game a few weeks ago, on someone's GenCon copy. We - unfortunately - played the starting mission the suggested, and as everyone knows by now, that went WAY longer than expected. In fact, we didn't finish because our FLGS was closing when we were 3.5 hours in. My second game was a week or so ago...just a 2 player, as we sat in front of a TV watching college football (after having that afternoon watched Virginia Tech beat North Carolina in Lane Stadium...obligatory Hokie reference for Russ).

Now...neither game was in exactly "optimal" conditions. First game, we were all brand new to the game, and learning it...and playing somewhat conservative (i.e. not necessarily sending the Reavers or Alliance after each other). And the 2nd game was a 2 player game, taught by me, with only one game under my belt...and late at night with the TV on.

I love the theme of course, and the pieces and parts are great...but I have one concern about the game...player interaction...or lack thereof. Yes, you can possibly send the Reavers/Alliance after someone. You can potentially steal their crew (but only if they're disgruntled). You can trade. But...is that enough? After my two games, it's felt a lot like several people playing against the game...and whoever gets the right equipment and/or lucky die rolls is going to be the winner.

Am I wrong? I hope so. Tell me how I'm wrong....
