My friend told me about path of exile last night (which apparently is just wrapping up its beta). I logged on for a short while and I was surprised at how it looks and feels like a diablo 2.5. Has anyone here had a chance to play through the game and design a high end character? Before I jump into the game I want to make sure it is worthwhile - possibly holding me over until the D3 expansion is released.

I can't wait to play around with it a bit more tonight - looks very promising.

It's been a good game, I haven't played in months though I'm sure my account has been hacked And yes it's very much like Diablo 3.

I have been looking into it and it seems like a great game all the things that were great from diablo added with more customization.

Can anyone tell me how the solo play is? I would like to play mostly as a solo and not be hampered but also have the option to join up with partners. Is this doable?

Solo play is fine, outside of towns it's instanced for the most part, so you rarely ever run into anyone else, towns are not instanced so that's when you see everyone.

Cool. I may just have to download it tonight or would it be better to wait for the countdown to be done?

I played the game a bit more and made it to level 8 with a templar and shadow. So far I'm liking the game - the difficulty is great so far as even in the lower levels you can't just run into 8 zombies and solo them without a potion or stacking reave (aoe hit).

FirePainter: I'd definitely download it now so that you can test out some of the characters and abilities/run through the first few quests/zones. When the count down ends and the game officially launches you will be able to jump in to a character and build that you have already gotten the feeling for.

I don't see this as a game that I will play everyday for 5 hours at a time, but definitely a fun way to kill 5-10 hours per week

Jumped back into Path of Exile not to long ago(I.E a few days ago).

Had countless characters, don't think any have reached past level 20 however.

Saying that I really love the concept of no "proper" currency. It just makes use of all the item properties and uses them as trade items instead.

Even the end game I find quite unique, its not just simple instance A then instance B. You can play instance A as many times over but add various modifiers to the maps which can completely change the experience.

The final thing I like is the fact that you pretty much can build who you want given time. Oh hey my Witch has 100+ STR.

The only downside (IMO) is it can be quite daunting for new players, I mean that skill tree almost put me off the game to start with.

Also that I feel there may just be a tad much loot being dropped. I feel this may be down to my own sence however and not actually fault of the game, I'm usually an item hoarder and leaving half the stuff on the ground somewhat annoys me but I'm also not gonna spend 5 mins looking for a waypoint to just sell it.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

Haven't really played much lately, but I have a level 63 Templar that basically casts nothing but firestorm, and has a ridiculous build that focuses on crit passives, because I like seeing fire rain from the sky and enemies bursting into flames while the screen is shaking nonstop.

See how silly it is (and it'll just get sillier if I level more): http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUBBVs3R2usRUe1BOQijmT3prb6GmwZhSSqNunjavrSHRSPRoFJsjhmT9DQz2VVxhZvm6H311tZn7RYrqyYFLA6MDlSvDdObVgHAP0XUEwtgh6IQvIdwfOiow_E3Md_xiepWm0kPKdcSVERlp2j_KsOSOOE8NlJO3J-wFFw1fPqcFJd8ha_HNwtR1BCjDZVSyaVkyefe3i645_UGbyf

Probably not a viable hardcore build , but there's no point since my connection would never allow it.

Everyone knows the best build is Death Knight Templar.
