Heya everyone, I helped organize an event about 2 months ago, and then had an even heavier hand in running the second pass at the same event. Given that the dudes at the game shop are usually pretty busy running the counter and lan-center in the store, I figured I'd jump in and offer to do allot more of the legwork and take over.

In that spirit, I wanted to see if we could get a few people from outside our typical group interested in playing at our small tournament! It's going to be a bi-monthly thing, so we are happy to see you at this or future events!

The mission system I thought up is still pretty young, but we've been play testing it a good deal and I think that we've at least pressed out the parts of it that give any one army a huge advantage (whats left now is to make sure its as fun as possible). with that said, here's how it works.

Spoiler:
Players arrive at the table, and are given three objective tokens each. On the table is a deck of cards, players shuffle the cards and deal five out to each player.

Some cards activate special mission conditions (ex; relic, killpoints, quarters, inflate/deflate the value of objectives, etc)
Some cards give you buffs (ex; boost the mastery level of one of your psychers, or allows you to re-jig your reserves)
Some cards give nerfs (ex; both sides lose the ability to score with a single unit on the table)

The players then discard two cards, and pass one to their opponent. Those cards are in effect for the duration of the game. Some of them are played face up, others are triggered by in game events (Like your opponent asking to be allowed to fix a mistake they made for example). Each objective is worth three points, and the game starts normally.

Forgeworld 40k approved is allowed, and for the sake of fairness, we are tentatively allowing Tyranids to ally with Tyranids (although that may change if their codex does something interesting to fix that injustice). We are also very VERY carefully allowing someone to field a 30k army should they so choose (without primarchs of course). We aren't sure how balanced it is, but we are pretty sure its very cool. If we find out its broken and unfair, we will disallow if in the future.

Entry is 10 dollars regular, and 5 dollars for store members (the store is an awesome place, and members get very cool discounts on products) if pre-registering, and 15/10 dollars if you show up after the pre-registrations close all of which goes into prizes in the form of gift cards valid at the counter. The event will run 3 rounds of 2 hour games. The place is right next to a pizza parlor, tim-hortons, Mcdonalds and grocery store, and the game shop allows food to be brought in.

Feel free to drop in some feedback!

The fluff is like ketchup and mustard on a burger. Yes it's desirable, yes it makes things better, but no it doesn't fundamentally change what you're eating and no you shouldn't just drown the whole meal in it.
