If you don't have a favorite faction and like both...get both. Lol. A falcon and X-Wing vs 2 TIEs and Slave I can make up a decent enough 100 point game for you to rope friends in. Only rebels have the really big ships. For now...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Right now the answer seems to be no. Which doesn't mean it won't happen, but there's been no mention or hint of the Empire getting capital ships. The issue is a matter of scale.

The CR-90 Corellian Corvette is 150m long. A Imperial Star Destroyer is 1,600m long.

The CR-90 model that FFG is producing is about 11in long at 1/300 scale IIRC. To make a ISD at that scale, it would be around 20 feet long, which is a big too big for most peoples gaming table.

They could make the ISD a different scale, but at that point you really lose the impact of such a ship... Myself I don't think I'd bother buying a 18 inch long ISD, because the scale would just be too far off.

There are some ships in the EU that they could produce, ships that are closer in size to the CR-90, but I don't know how well they'd sell.

I think getting both might be the best plan then, and decide later who i put my money with.

sad about the capital ships tho would of liked one just have to wait and see what the future holds.

It depends on who you play with. If you're the only guy who has the game you need both sides, because how are you going to play if you just have one side? I guess you could do Rebel vs Rebel if you bought a lot of it, but you might end up arguing over who gets all the B-Wings or something. If you have other friends who are into the game you could just get one side.

I'm getting one of each expansion to get the cards. Then I will double or triple up on only the ships I like.

Make note that the X-Wing and TIE Fighter expansions contain additional cards that don't come in the core set. The Imperial Aces expansion will contain two TIE Interceptors, so don't buy more than one of those. The large ship for Rebels apparently comes with an X-Wing, so if you plan to buy that don't buy more than one X-Wing expansion unless you want a lot of X-Wings.

I find that buying a 'staple force' of the opposing faction is a great thing to have. That way you can run demo games for others and drive up interest. After that, especially if you have a friend going the other faction, buy the faction you really want to increase and go hog wild.
