So, I drew my inspiration for this one from people who are in the mind that the
MOTF is useless and/or mediocre. I also aimed to make good use of Tactical Squads and have a build flexible enough to rip-Riptides-to-pieces.
The main battle plan is as follows. If I grab initiative, KWS bike alpha strike takes the enemy head on and attempts to cripple, with Storm Ravens moving in for smacking wounds off
MC's and neutralizing infantry. If necessary the Tacticals disembark to grab an objective or pump enough rapid fire bolt shells into a squad in cover that they cave in. Scouts hold the home objective and are the only unit that doesn't have a hope in hell of effectively doing something to a Riptide/
MC. Ironclads wipe scoring units off objectives, tackle
MC's in
CC if they can and draw fire.
The Master of the Forge sits with a Tactical Squad in a Storm Raven and gives the army the following benefits:
1) 5 Heavy Support Choices (technically)
2) 3 extra plasma shots at BS5 if they're needed, or a flamer if there's scoring.
3) Auspex if multiple units are shooting at the target
4) 2+ cover saves on the home objective Scouts
5) Repairs the Storm Ravens or Ironclads if need be.
6) Absorbs wounds like a boss for a squad with a 2+ save.
7) Tackles vehicles and to a limited extent
MC's or weaker combat characters with a pair of power fist attacks.
If the enemy goes first and has 'I'm about to wipe you off the board' level firepower or capability (e.g Helldrakes) I can outflank two Bike Squads to mitigate the damage. True, I could end up losing the remaining Bike Squad or my home objective scouts, but A) Its definitely not as bad as It could be and B) This army is made to snatch and retake objectives, as the outflanking squads can retake the home objective or the Tacticals in the Ravens.
Note on the other thread; I got bummed, the tournament is 600 doubles so my 1200 list was a no-go. Its still going to happen though around Christmas time, so I can still prepare for it.
No, its not White Scars fluffy with the Dreads, but hey, I play successors anyway.
