Bounding Assault Marine

I'm looking to start working on a space wolves force soon. I have canis, 3x thunder wolves, 12 fenrisians, and a cyber wolf. I was planning on getting a few grey hunters pack with pods and 2 to 3 long fang packs. I'd like to run a foot army and keep the armor to a minimum. What would you guys suggest I pick up to add to the list of units I have and want to get? I'm looking for a fun but competitive list.

Maybe the battalion box would be worth looking into. Just a pod and a bunch of infantry. Do the math see if its worth buying.

That's a good idea about the battleforce set. But are wolf scouts worth fielding? I guess I could eBay the scouts to get some of the money back if they're not.

Ive had good fun throwing in a team of six scouts with snipers and one missile helps keep my opponent pinned. precision shots always are handy but realistically only in larger games is it worth the points.
The battle force is a good choice gives you some solid troop choices and lots of bits left over.

The battle box is pretty good since it gets you the drop pod and two squads of grey hunters. You're probably not going to use the scouts, but in any good space wolf army you're going to want ~40 grey hunter bodies and this kit gets you half way there.

I figured 4x 10 man grey hunter squads and may max out the long fangs with all missiles. Seems like the only good choice. When the codex gets updated they'll make an awesome anti-air setup. Is a rune priest worth getting? I've seen lots of army builds on here that include one or more priests. If so how are they used? Sitting in back with long fangs or up front with the grey hunters? Thanks for all the input. The battleforce box seems very cost effective if picked up off of ebay. Would save me roughly $50 per box so that seems to be a no-brainer to get started.

Yes. Very much so. The two big reasons to use them is a) Jaws of the World Wolf, and b) Divination. The two ways I've seen them used most effectively is take 2 in some drop pod units to deep strike turn 1 and Jaws those pesky riptides into oblivion, it's one of the only powers that can easily and effectively take those things out. The other good use is to keep one with your long fangs and use divination on them to re-roll all those missiles. You'll be pretty much guaranteed that 4/5 will hit every time. And it'll double your chances to trying to pick of a flyer if that's what you need to do.
Because of their lack of AA, the solo wolf army is kinda rough going IMO, but if you stick to what they're really good at (Grey Hunter Drop pods, Rune Priests, and Long Fangs) you can still make a good list.

Very nice. I'll stick to that then. Thanks again guys for the tips.

My tip: buy a box of battleforce for the drop pod, and 2 GH troop squads. Buy an additional grey hunter box, and get a bunch of (8-10) missile launchers from bitz, build 2 squads of long fangs from a grey hunter box and the bitz.
Last but not least, buy the old Njal Stormcaller model, that's in power armour and not terminator armour, holding the chooser high in one hand.
And you will get an 1250 point list like this:
HQ:
Canis Wolfborn
Rune Priest with runic stave and chooser
Troops:
GH squad with 2 melta, standard, MotW, in a drop pod
GH squad with 2 plasma, standard, MotW (on foot, with Rune Priest)
Fast attack:
TWC with 2x SS (to cover Canis), 1x PF
Fenrisian squad, with 10 normal wolves +1 cyberwolf
Heavy:
2 LF squads with 4 ML each

That sounds great. Not too expensive either. I'm dying to get this army up and running. Looks like fun to play. Are SW termies worth fielding? They seem extremely pricey to me.

All of the SW units, that can take upgrades, are expensive as hell.
That's why, I'm usually only running 2 termies:
I take a unit of Wolf Guard, decked out with combi weapons, in a drop pod. 8 of them are power armour, 2 termies. 1 termie is Heavy Flamer and keeps his PW (for MEQ killing), and the other has a Storm Shield and keeps his storm bolter or gets a combi-weapon.
One of the termies than joins a drop pod squad of 7 grey hunters, plus a Rune Priest. Depending on the enemy (intercept, etc) the heavy flamer or the storm shield goes with the RP, the other one stays with the wolf guard.
Another great use of a terminator armor is the Lone Wolf, with chainfist and SS, accompanied by 2 fenrisian wolves.
(if he gets killed, you get a VP for him, not the enemy )
And the last one is the TH SS one, for "counts as" Arjac Rockfist. He is still a wolf guard, so he can join a squad of grey hunters in a drop pod, disembarks inside 6 inches of a vehicle, and throws his hammer at it.

Can't go wrong getting drop pods and grey hunters. Lately i have been running an entire drop pod list. Normally play at 1500 points where i play. I run 6 squads grey hunters in drop pods and a squad of wolf guard with combi weapons with a rune priest in a drop pod. It works really well, people are quite shocked when 4 drop pods come down right on top of them 1st turn.

Nice. I've run a kantor sternguard pod list before and it was lots of fun. Do you run any long fangs at all?

No i don't use any. As i was getting the models together for the list i used them but i felt that adding in another 2 drop pods was even better so i can have 40 models come down 1st turn. There are going to be lists where this isn't going to be as good. It has been quite effective against Tau. You just got to be mindful when placing the drop pods to try and get line of site on those riptides and their interceptor and get flamers onto the pathfinders. Against most marine armies it is good because grey hunter are superior troops you out shoot them with 2 plasmas in the squad and they beat them in combat.
It is also just a really fun list to play. Peoples reactions when they see that many space wolves right on top of them is funny and also a good tactic because there are a lot of hard decisions to be made in the 1st turn. You can also deny them a 1st turn as well if you go 2nd.
