Having just got started in attack wing and picked up one of everything up to this point, I did want to expand my options, get in some crazy big games with friends and see if there were any better sculpts out there. The Fleet Captains sets seem to have been a good solution for this. You get 12 Fed and 12 Klingon ships with the main starter and another dozen Rom ships with the Romulan expansion. Which turns out to be decent value for your $. They also seem to be better models imo, I'll post some comparison pics this weekend if anyone's interested.

You do then have the challenge of painting and re-basing them to be suitable for use in attack wing, but this doesn't seem like it's that big a job. Cards can be duplicated pretty easily, the only issue i guess is movement dials, tho I did like someone's idea of just printing off the movement cards, trimming them down, coating them in plastic, then using a dry wipe marker to indicate the maneuver each turn.

Anyone else had any experiences retasking Fleet Captains for Attack Wing?

while I considered this option as well I didn't go this route since the cards are the more important items in attack wing. Duplication aside there are also alot of tokens and other stuff that are very helpful for the game. I got my stuff at 20% off and yes you'll have more ships however I don't think in the end you will spending a significantly less amount. and besides currently there are no rules for half those ships.

For the feds perhaps.. We have rules for the Galaxy, Defiant and Miranda. Excelsior is coming in December and Nova in February with the Intrepid in April. The Nebula is prize support for OP4, so those rules will be available too. That's the bulk of them either on the horizon and the Prometheus and Sovereign are fine to have sitting around as they're likely to appear relatively soon. The Sabre class and Oberth.. who knows.

Klingons are pretty much all released at this point. 1 Negh'var, 2 Vorcha, 2 K'Vort, 4 K'Tinga/D7s.. the only one that isn't is the 2 Raptors which are in February's wave 3.

Romulans.. 4 D'deridex, Valdore, 2 Science Vessels, 3 BoPs are all out. Only absentees are the 2 Scout ships that are in December's Wave 2.

If you pick up the 2 sets you average at around £2.50 a ship (retail in the UK is about £11 per ship for attack wing). Even if you're than paying £2 for a flight stand and £2 for a movement dial then you're still at half the cost of the attack wing clamshells and since I'm picking up one of everything in terms of official releases all the cards are there to be used and duplicated for friendly games. I'm quite curious to get them all on the table and try out some attack wing with actual attack wings.. multiple front and flanking with detachments of ships etc. Should be fun.
