I was having a browse online at various wargames, looking to get started on something new and made a quick list of the main wargames that come with clear 'Starter Sets' ie a set designed to be the entry point into that particular game

Flames of War- Open Fire!
Warhammer 40k- Dark Vengeance
Warhammer- Island of Blood
Warmachine- 2-Player Battle Box
Hordes- 2-Player Battle Box
Kings of War- 2-Player Battle Set
Dropzone Commander- Two-Player Starter Set
Bolt Action- Assault on Normandy
Warpath- Fate of the Forgestar

I know I'm probably forgetting one or two games that have starter sets, but those were the main ones I could find. Prices online ranged from £39.99 (Warpath/Kings of War) to £71.95 (Warmachine/Hordes) which averaged out to £53.35

My question/challenge to you guys was to see what custom 'Starter Sets' you could come up with for the OTHER wargames that are available..... things like Infinty, DUST warfare, Hail Ceaser etc that don't already have a starter set of their own

If I set a total for the starter set at £60/$97 (rounding up from the average because I'm a generous sort of person) what could you come up with that would provide an entry-point for the different wargames that are available? The amount in US dollars is just a straight conversion from £60, so I don't know if that makes it easier or harder to form a starter set from!

You can use prices from either the games main website shop or prices from a specified independent online store to work out the total prices

So for example- Starter for 'WARGAME X'
Rulebook- £20
Box of X Soldiers- £20
Box of Y Soldiers- £20
TOTAL- £60

There are only a few conditions....
1. The set MUST contain a rulebook of some sort, although this can be included as a 'free download' if the manufacturer of that particular game offers their rules as a 'legal' download for free (Kings of War etc)
2. The set MUST contain models for TWO players (The way Island of Blood has High Elves & Skaven, Open Fire Brit/American & Germans etc)

I'm interested to see what you guys could come up with, hopefully my ramblings aren't too confusing!

You forgot X Wing's starter set, which is a good deal too.

Not to nitpick but Hail Caesar does have a starter set.

Mongoose/ Warlord have a starter offer of the Judge Dredd game at £75 - http://www.warlordgames.com/store/judge-dredd-rulebook-2-box-sets.html

But to keep it to the letter of the challenge, the rule book is £30 and individual figures are £5 each and you could certainly get a starter game in with 6 figures (1 Judge, 1 rookie vs 4 Perps) some selections below:

Or go to Mongoose's site and get a cut down basic rules pdf for free and spend £60 on 2 boxed sets of 8 mini's per box @ £30 a box to get 16 figures:

Corvus Belli offers Infiity's rules free download, so any two of the "starter boxes" are legitimate entry points to the game.
