We are doing a progressive points tournament at our FLGS, and I want to use my Tyranids army at the 1400 point step.

I use the same my core for my 1750-2000 point games, which I'm used to, please help me change it around, to make it more fun to play both with and against.

The basics are:

HQ:
2x Flyrant with 2x Dev 2x 260

Elite:
Doom in sPod 130

Troops
2x 10 Termagants 100
2x Tervigon with ST, AG and TS, cluster spines, 3 powers 2x 215

Subtotal 1180

That leaves me with 220 point.
My safest bet is 2x Hive Guard, 2x Zoanthropes
Or a Trygon with TS

But here comes the part where I ask your help:
Would it be better to ditch one of the Flyrants for something less dull, like swarmie, or a devigaunt swarm paired to a trygon prime, or a harpy and a horde of gargoyles?
Or just go TAC and use 1 Flyrant, 3 Hive Guard, 2 Biovore, 15 gargoyles and a Harpy ?

Swarmie with one guard and devilgaunts in a pod?

I like trygons but they work best in pairs so I would go for the Hive guard and thropes so you have to mid range light vehicle popping.

I sorry but did you just say thropes are for "light" vehicle popping???????
S 10 AP 1 lance (AV above 12 is 12) pops the massive vehicles like monoliths or land raiders!!!!!

based off what i play (and i am no expert), i would recommend 2-3 zoans in a pod, drop a rant, give 1 termie brood devourers (expensive i know), and a trygon or 2 if you have the points. This also gives you more synapse to spread around. I would also recommend CC on your tervigons, to deal with dreads and what not. Hope it helps.

Only used Zoans for backfield synapse and the lance.
If I load 3 of them in a pod, which powers should I use? Keep the lance and reroll the other for Telepathy and take Psychic Shriek if I don't get a good one, or try Biomancy?

My Tervigons have Scything Talons glued to them, so that's a given.

Another idea, regarding the 2 trygons: 1 trygon prime (crazy amount of shooting from those), and a mawloc to disrupt gunlines?

Do I see ten man termagaunt sqads I really advise you not do that

I usually don't roll, and keep both lance and Blast, both are great situational powers

i know the feeling

I'm currently up in the air about the Mawloc, It's such a great a model, it can DS into enemy units but then nothing for a round, so I don't know if its worth the points personally, The prime ( i give mine regen to be a jerk) are great.

Oh and if you are taking 10 man gaunt squads, put them in a pod or they probably wont see turn 3. But otherwise jump them up to 15-20

I do it all the time. Put them in Reserves and use them for backfield objective grabbers. The Tervigons are advancing to grab objectives and I have all my other threats on the board.

I was referring to the hive guard there, sorry about that...I am well aware thropes have the lance. My mistake, thank you for pointing it out so clearly.

Tervigons.. I love everything about them from the model to the rules. I think If you run something like this your list will pack a pretty nasty punch. Just bubble wrap the heck outta swarmy and run it as a huge mob and send that lone gaunt squad to claim a home objective. Flyers? We got spods dropping in, breh. Terminators? Weight of fire and CC. You brought your landraider, bro? We'll surround the exits and smash it or kill it last.

Take 2 tyrants and 2 harpys and a load of gargoyles. Makes a fun list. I run that with shrikes, terv, and drop pod devgaunts.

I like Shingen's list, I hope the rumours of the new codex allowing gargoyles to be used in troop slot with a Flyrant will be true.
Coupled with shrikes, and HVC harpies, that's gonna be a mean list.

Made an 1400 point list with Flyrant, 2 tervigon, 17 devigaunts in pod, harpy, 2x 20 gargoyles with TS... pity I don't have a harpy and only 18 gargoyles. But it sure looks good on paper.

I converted my useless carnifexs to harpies, just slapped some fantasy dragon wings on them.

Because harpies aren't useless either?

Harpies are excellent if you know how to use them.
