Hi dakka dakka

I'm planning to have a 2k battle 1k of my tau and 1k of my mates dark elda vs 2k of orks.
I'm looking for advise on my tau list I know the 1k dark elda will use venoms and raiders for fast poison saturation shot so he will take care of any ork mobs so I want a list to deal with the battle wagons the ork play will bring

All advise and comments much appreciated

Comes up at 999 points the plan is to have ADL centre of deployment with cadre fireblade bs5 to fire las cannon and have the riptides and hammerheads search and destroy all vehicles then let fire warriors with ethereal take objectives.

Hi mate, IMHO the quad gun is far superior to the lascannon, even against none flying units. If I was you I would put a normal fire warrior on a quad as it's twin linked and use your blades marker light. Also finding a way to get a small squad of pathfinders in won't go amiss as making sure your hammerheads don't miss their av shots will help you out. Also you want disruption pods on your hammerheads to gain your 4+ jink save

Cheers for the advise my main worry is the 14 front armour on a battle wagon which a quad can't scratch.
With the mark lights what's your opinion on using marklight drones as they have the jsj and at t4 where pathfinders are t3?

That is true but pathfinders are a point cheaper and have a higher ballistic skill so more hits, personally I think it's better to have pathfinders because of the bs but opinion seems to be split down the middle, there's no right or wrong answer, it all depends on deployment as to how long they survive lol. Tbh with 2 str 10 ap 1 rail guns I don't think you'll have much of a problem, if your still worries take a twin linked fusion blaster on one if your riptides, jsj up to the battle wagon and ripple fire it twice to death.
