Jealous that Horus is Warmaster
|
Hi Folks
I've just invested my last FW order into this list as it looks fun and most importantly i love the models. I'm still relatively fresh to 40k so was reviewing the assault rules last night and now i'm looking how to tweak this existing list upwards in points to give it some competitiveness.
CCS MB, 2 x PG, Centaur 175
Grenadiers (5) MB, 2 x MG, armoured centaur 135
Grenadiers (5) MB, 2 x MG, armoured centaur 135
Engineers (5) MB, PG. HF, Centaur 120
Engineers (5) MB, PG. HF, Centaur 120
Engineers (5) MB, PG. HF, Centaur 120
Engineers (5) MB, PG. HF, Centaur 120
925 at the moment
I play on a city terrain board and i had plans to march a few units of deathriders on a flank to these so that assaults can be synchronised and devastating.
I have pricked up ears in the upcoming inquisitorial codex but would love a mobile hard/fast hitting unit.
I do possess quite a bit of artillery so i may be a dick and just add 6 x earthshaker carriages and a couple of thudds but i want it to remain novel and fun towards 1500pts

if a dolphin will jump out of water for fish, just imagine what it would do for chips? |

I'd suggest the arty. Hit them hard with that while you move up, then assault whatever is left. It's exactly how the Dkok would fight in real life, why not confer that to the table?

i was concerned with the paper thin armour issues - i do have a thunderer for some diversion of fire if needed.
I'm not concerned about flyers unless we play lengthways as i can keep in cover/out of LOS quite easily.
Fingers crossed they come in the post in the next few days and i'll report back on how they cope

How do you plan on dealing with mech lists?

i can assault out of the centaurs and i have PG's and MB's. I do have plans to either add a vanquisher plus some artillery or use thunderers to advance on through.
Chances are my deathriders will get included as i love the models so much and they are MB'd up too.

Relying solely on meltabombs seems like a terrible idea, despite my love for them. Adding longer-range AT like vanquishers, lascannon teams, rapiers, etc. seems like a good idea. Zipping around on centaurs does seem pretty fun though, good luck with it!

the cyclops can be a good little nippy Str 9 attack - i've just never considered them seriously.
The list came up on a whim and my thinking is - its a list that know one will expect. I'm expecting they'll get wiped out in a few turns - but thats what DKOK are for!

So, i dropped out a troop choice and inserted 2 squads of death riders with MBs for a game against a slaanesh based CSM/Daemons list . IIRC the opponent ran
Space marine Sorcerer - level 3?
2 x units of CSM with rhinos and plasma guns
KOS
15 Daemonettes
Slaanesh chariot thing
I did lose but i actually did pretty well. My list was designed to consolidate my learning on assault rules but the few things that went wrong were inevitably the dice rolls.
I managed to assault out of my centaurs and pop one rhino spectacularly with a 6" blast - as i had my team in a position to follow up with the heavy flamer they took casualties.
I failed to pop the other rhino despite my plasma gun and MBs failing to hit :(
My death riders immobilised the chariot after getting charged but only losing one casualty. they then mob charged the Daemonettes so we both hit at initiative 5 and i managed to cause significant casualties before my grenadiers supported and wiped the rest out along with the chariot.
I managed to cause 3 x wounds on the KOS by heavy stubbers on my centaurs but by the time we started turn 5 i had just vehicles left and conceded.
They were actually a good list to play and had my plan pulled off with rhino popping, gas grenades and heavy flamers it may have been the other way.
Next time i'll be using my big guns and increasing up to 1500pts
