I'm not sure if I should post rules here. If mod deem not acceptable please let me know.

Each Fraction can occupy models on 1 cube up to size 4, during a melee fight both sizes can occupy models one 1 cube up to size 4.

If all the models are size 1. then during a melee fight 1 cube can have up to 8 models (of size 1)

Here's a good one:
Lying Down Models
During the game some models will invariably end
up lying down (to show that they are Pinned or
Suppressed). How does LOS work to these models?
Exactly the same as every other model. Lying down
changes nothing as far as the rules are concerned.

Since you actually lay the model down when they lying down, does that mean that can make it so people can't aim at it (no LOS) if it is behind a low wall... It is just poorly worded. They should have said that 'Lying down only represents the condition of the model and they should be stood back up when checking LOS' or something similar.

A models actual placement on the board is critical. If you are lying on the ground your LOS is probably blocked.

Well then the last sentence makes no sense. 'Lying down
changes nothing as far as the rules are concerned.'

Lying down changes everything, since you're lying down it is a lot harder to see you.

they mean that it changes nothing as far as drawing los is concerned. if you can see it lying down you can see it if you cant you cant.
lying down doesnt add any special rules.

I've gone through the download process three times, and each time I have been told that it's "not available." Is anyone else having this problem?

I would also try different web browsers, if possible.

Also if you redeemed it once it should now be listed under the Library for the WGV account created and can be downloaded from there.

Yep that's how I interpreted it.

Really impressed by the book btw. Great layout, design, editing, rules look a lot of fun. Nice combination of sexy mini pics in great settings and drawn/rendered images.

The only "problem" I noticed, was that the watermark "owner name (order number)" obscured every second pages page number bottom left. I'll *just* be able to live with this glaring fault somehow. ; p

i really have to admidt that the whole cube and calculating range had me thrown for a loop the first couple of reads.
somehow i missed that little paragraph with the shorthand way to caclulate it...lol.

Pretty sure it'll all be intuitive once we have the mats, terrain and minis in front of us. Mantic/Quirkworthy seem on the ball with rule updates for clarifications and fixing exploits... so promising!

Oh one actual semi valid complaint - I don't think the pdf is bookmarked? Bookmarks are great for digital books, so it's a shame they're not in. My free pdf reader could just be missing them, but I don't think so. Don't think it'll let me add bookmarks with it either though.

It's annoying, but none of the Mantic pdfs have been bookmarked, and by default it's impossible to edit them as they're secured files.

Fortunately these days we're all 1337 haxxorz and can easily crack them... right?

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

I probably will look into it tbh, I've bookmarked all my - totally legit, honest - GW PDFs and it speeds up the process of finding the info you want greatly. I might actually drop Mantic a line and see if they'll consider doing it, at least in the future.

Finished reading the rulebook, emphasising once again how good I think the rules are. This game is going to offer quick, solid, deep action with excellent campaigns.

Am I right in thinking that as your troops level up, their increased cost means that you'll be able to take fewer troops and items each battle? For example, you have a 70 point list, every model levels up and now costs more - will you now need to leave 1 or more of these models behind because they cost more?

You'll be leaving models behind most games due to the way that the list building works anyway, selecting a smaller subset of the models you have available to field.

I forsee a few cannon fodder grunts being brought along each game, just to round out numbers and cover more ground. I guess we'll have to see through playtesting if the increased points for models with skills are costed accurately.

Yeah having a team to choose models from is great, I just thought it didn't seem ideal that by your guys getting more experienced you can't take as many of them next time. It's probably justified to keep things balanced in campaigns but... a single skill can add +6 cost to a model for example - that basically means you have to remove an entire model from what you take on a mission when you level a guy up and get that ability.

Forced taking of basic troops due to the 1:1 restriction of troops:rares+specs is great too.

Another thing I'm liking - Page 8 says it's okay and encouraged to convert minis, and squishes the "modelling for advantage debate" dead in its tracks.

Deadzone Rulebook wrote:If you are a veteran miniatures gamer and want to convert your model into a different pose then feel free to do so. The model will now be able to see and be seen in slightly different circumstances, but will find that the change of pose is as much of a hindrance as a benefit. Having tested the game with proxy models in a wide variety of poses, no position was found to be universally better than others. If you want to convert your models we recommend doing so because you enjoy the process or have a cool idea for a heroic pose rather than imagining that this will provide any gaming edge.

Clear, concise and great for all concerned. Gotta love it ; )

Enforcers on telescopic flying bases would be pretty cool.

They all have jump packs so it would be great to give them a method of occupying mid-air cubes without any terrain in them.

In fact, Deadzone is quite well suited to handling aerial combat with multiple heights, it would be very interesting to have a flying faction capable of doing this.

Look at the most recent Xcom game for exactly what you guys are talking about One of the end game armors has is a flight suit, and you can hover in mid air (consuming fuel). It's makes your long ranged snipers extra terrifying when they have clear sight lines from that vantage point, and its not even totally imbalanced because if anything manages to get close, its not exactly like they can hide in mid air

I'm sure that if there are ever 'official' deadzone tournaments you'll see the occasional WAACer with a strike team full of hunched/crouching models, but then that still hurts their LOS so even then its not a clear advantage to do it.

Playing through XCom slowly atm after stopping at release due to bugs. Really fun game! The expansion looked really good which motivated me to finish the base game before I buy it.

Hmm theres a thought... paint my enforcers hot pink like my assault marines in xcom ; p

Question: Does anyone know what kind of liscence there is for using the Deadzone rules?

Like is it along the lines of Kings of War, where you can use the rules as long as you credit Mantic and don't use them for profit, something along those lines?

I ask because I'm looking at adapting a fantasy ruleset for it (a la mordheim), but want to make sure I won't be stepping on mantic's toes in that case.

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

The 40k conversion I'm doing was mentioned by Quirkworthy on his blog and he didn't mind. So long as you don't try to make money from it I don't think they'll have a problem.
