Hello, I am a very new player and finally finished completing my AOBR space marine set with some additions. What I currently have is below.

Pedro Kantor

Captain with power weapon and bolter

Terminator squad 5 with heavy flamer

Dreadnought with MM

Sternguard 5 with power fist, flamer, and plasma gun

Tactical squad with power fist, melta, and missile launcher

Scout Squad 5 with close combat weapon, 3 sniper rifles, heavy bolter, and all camo cloaks

The total for this army is about 1200 points. I was hoping to make a decent 1500 point list while adding as little as possible, still being resonably fluffy while still being competetive, and using what I have. Below is my proposed future 1500 point list.

Pedro Kantor

Honour Guard 4 with champ and Thunder Hammer, Relic Blade, and Banner

Sternguard 5 with power fist, 2 combi meltas, heavy flamer

all in Land Raider Crussader

Tactical Squad with sgt combi melta, melta, MM in Rhino

Tactical Squad with sgt combi flamer, flamer, Heavy Bolter, Rhino

Scout Squad 5 with close combat weapon, 3 sniper rifles, heavy bolter, and all camo cloaks

Devestator squad with sgt power fist, 4 missile launchers

I would love to hear any advice that a veteran gamer could give on either the 1500 point list or alternative additions to what I have. I was also thinking with the new list I could add the Dread with a drop pod, the Terminators, 1 more Honour Guard, 5 Sternguard (1 plasma gun, 1 Heavy Flamer 2 combi melta), and that should equal about 2000 points.

thank you

Power fists on your Tac and Dev squad sgts is a massive point sink for a character that will be taken out of the equation before he even gets to use it 9/10 times. Run them as bare as possible (especially dev sgts!) .. I suggest Bolter + Chainsword/Pistol, or Combi-bolter + Chainsword/Pistol. You want to avoid getting into combat with your tacs (and even more so your devs) as much as possible .. they'll just die quickly and are meant for shooting.

Same on the Sternguard sgt. I'd use the points elsewhere (Give him at most a power weapon - Maul or Axe is good), perhaps on more combi-meltas for the sternguard.

I would not take a relic blade any more. Save the points.

You lack anti-air. Perhaps using the saved points from the PF's could put Flakk on the missile launchers or buy you an ADL with Quad gun for the devs to stand behind.

And when you say "all in an LRC" you mean jus the sternguard? You can't put the Sternguard, Honour Guard and Kantor in there. Stern OR honour guard, not both.

Your Dreadnought lacks a way to get into melta range too .. low AV means he'll get shot up quick. Consider upgrading to an Ironclad and/or getting him a Drop pod.

OP, quite honestly, you have a smattering of models that are inefficiently built; both physically and listhammer wise.

Now, don't lose heart, every single one of us has been where you are. Everybody starts off with a box set or battle force, builds in a manner they view as cool and then come to regret using all that plastic glue on loadouts that turn out to be tactically inoptimal.

Here's how I would run a 1500 point, fairly competitive CF force.

Pedro

Sternguard x9: 5 combi-melta, Drop Pod- 293
Sternguard x10: 5 combi-melta, Drop Pod- 315
Ironclad Drednought: x2 HF, Drop Pod- 170...? (Check this one, I don't have my dex in front of me)

Tactical Marines 5: MM, Drop Pod- 115
Tactical Marines 5: MM, Drop Pod- 115
Scouts x5: Bolters, Land Speeder Storm (HF)- 100
Scouts x5: Bolters, Land Speeder Storm (HF)- 100

Thunderfire Cannon- 100

Total: 1493* (Check the Ironclad)

Listen, you don't have to use this list, I'm just trying to give you an idea of what a generalized, reasonably competitive CF force might have. Sternguard in pods make outstanding alpha strikers, ditto Ironclad. This is aided in that they are scoring for you. The idea is, those 3 pods come in T1 and do enough crippling damage that your scoring units, which can get anywhere, can hang back and score. objectives.

If you intend to drink beer and screw around with whatever your buddy bought in HIS starter box, then what you have is totally fine. But if you are joining a gaming group that has some harder lists/players, you're going to have to start inching towards more efficient loadouts with each paycheck.
