Hey all, I'm trying a new list, themed around a orbital launched force, this is what I'm thinking of,
Sorry about all the edits, I just looked at my models and realized I'm out a drop pod, so the ironclad is losing his and is going on the storm raven

Vulcan he,Stan

Chaplain
-plasma pistol

Command squad
-4 flamers
-apothecary
-drop pod

Tactical squad
-flamer, multi melta
-veteran sgt w/ power weapon
-drop pod

Tactical squad
-flamer, multi melta
-veteran sgt w/ power weapon
-drop pod

Tactical squad
-flamer, multi melta
-veteran sgt w/ power weapon
-drop pod

5 assault terminators
-3 thunder hammers

Ironclad dreadnought
-2 heavy flamers

Storm talon gunship

Storm talon gunship

Storm raven gunship
-multi melta, TL lascannon

So the tactics are pretty obvious with this I will try it out tomorrow. But for now I wanted to see what you guys thought, Vulcan goes with the command squad, and the chaplain goes with the terminators in the raven. And from what I've seen of space marines they are really good at holding objectives so I plan in dominating the part of the bored with the most, and defending against it using everything that isn't a troop to hold things at bay.
I have about 55 points left over, I have a few ideas of how to use them, mainly death wind missile launchers, located beams and such, but still in the air about it, if you have suggestions it would be great.

If don't get turn 1 then your command squad is going to get blasted off the board, maybe put them in a pod also.
or are you sticking them in the Raven ?

Does look good though let us know how it works out.

I think the list looks like it will mesh well together. I like the theme behind it but was wondering...are you putting your command squad (w/Vulcan & Chappy?) in the Stormraven or the terminators? I think I might try this out when I get back from the Desert!

Oops I forgot to put drop pod for the command squad, just fixed it.

You should put the Ironclad in the Raven, just so you can see the look on your opponents face when you ram a Dreadnought and 6 rerolling assault terminators down his throat turn three

Bocatt, I decided that is what I'm going to do, one because it sounds kinda funny, and two because I thought I had more drop pods

What are you spending your extra 35 pts on?

Ok, couple of things.

I know it's tempting to load up the Stormraven with as much stuff as possible but this is actually a horrible idea. It's the old eggs in one basket scenario. Dropping into hover will spell almost certain doom for your Storm Raven, and clever maneuvering by a competent opponent can ensure that you usually won't get a charge, or will get one on an expendable unit. And if you try to kick them out of the door, you'll need to scatter and take dangerous terrain tests which in the case of the Ironclad could spell disaster.

That said, Vulkan does belong in a drop pod, but why not take meltaguns!? Or just take Sternguard instead.

Next, Assault terminators aren't as good as either another Ironclad in a pod + spare points, or Sternguard in a pod, or 2 Thunderfire Cannons + spare points, or another Stormraven or.....see where I'm going with this?

Chaplains are terrible. Put those points into one of the myriad of things I mentioned above.

Good theme, and you've definitely identified what Salamanders do best: Drop pod spam alpha strike, with fliers sprinkled in to taste.

The reason the ironclad is in the raven is because I have no kore pods, I have no stern guard, I do have one thunder fire cannon, and I could drop the chaplain for some land speeders or scouts. The key thing I wanted with this army is to keep the theme, and the only thing I think would be "fluffy" for this army to be on the board turn one is scouts acting as recon for the assault.
Just so you have an idea of what I have to use instead, I have
A land raider crusader, thunder fire cannon, 2 land speeders w/multi meltas, heavy flamers, a bunch of captains, a chapter master, a Libby, one dreadnought, attack bike, 2 units of five sniper scouts, and I believe that is everything

Ok, considering that I would just sub the Thunderfire for the chaplain and call it good. Great theme, good luck!

So would you suggest using the thunder fire instead of the re rolls on the terminators, I was thinking about a librarian, but that seems a waste, what about an aegis defence line with comma relay, do you think that would be worth it, it would just be sitting there but might help get rid of potential bad luck on reserves?
