Hi, i'm new here, and in march me and some friends will be going to warhammer world for a tournament. Thing is, I've never went to a tournament before. here is my list, word bearer themed:

HQ
daemon price-275
wings, armour, mastery level 2, daemon of tzeentch, ichor blood(only from left over points)

troops
10 marines-170
x2 plasma guns
10 marines-160
x2 meltas
20 cultists-130
nurgle

fast attack
heldrake-170
baleflamer
heldrake-170
baleflamer

heavy support
2 obliterators-152
mark of nurgle

my main questions are should i split the obliterators, should i only have one cultist squad, and is anything in the list not worth it? thank you very much!

Ok well first things first, glad your finally going to tourney at warhammer world its a great weekend! The points limits for their tourneys are normally 1500 aren't they? Are you going to battle brothers or throne of skulls? If throne then it's defo 1500 as I am preparing my tau to take them in march too. Dual drake is solid. I would split your cultists into 2 x 10 man squads and lose the mark. They are cheap scoring units nothing more so don't waste points on them. If you want a flying cc beast then give your dp the black mace because that set up kicks ass. As for your csm's I would give them some transports, a couple of rhinos will do because you will need scoring units which are able to zoom across the board for line breaker/contesting objectives in your enemies half. I do feel like your missing some long range fire power though, you have 2 oblits so far and that's it. A unit of 5 havocs with 4 auto cannons would be nice.

Thanks for the advice! I have just checked it is actually 1250. I agree with what you say, but what do you think i should drop to make points? if i drop a heldrake, there will still be 65 points to drop.

I would probably drop the Daemon prince. Typically when I run them I leave them alone so that my opponent doesn't pay too much attention to them and I can use them to maul a weak spot. In this case I feel like that strategy won't work and the only thing saving it from an early death is the helldrakes. If you want to assault then drop a psychic level and get the black mace, if you want to keep it flying then grab the burning brand so it can pretend to be a helldrake.

In regard to your questions, IMHO unless you need the heavy support space for something else then Obliterators are always well served by being by themselves, they can't all be shot at the same time, they can choose their weaponry independently and so long as you position them properly range is never an issue. And they don't really benefit from having a character joined to them either. I really don't know about the cultists, I get it for fluff reasons but I don't see them working as standard cultists. I typically only bring them as plague zombies in groups of thirty. If you do want to run them then 2 groups of at least 15, because if your opponent makes a point of trying to wipe a squad then 10 men isn't going to offer any resistance at all. Otherwise generally speaking there isn't anything useless in this list and overall it's pretty good. I'm not a fan of vanilla marines but that's more due to personal taste really.

Good luck at the tournament though, I'd be interested in hearing how it goes.
