IMO death marks suck, especially in a huge squad of 10. If your gona take them take like 5

Yeah, Anrakyr is underwhelming as well; I'd replace him with a Dlord to run with the Wraiths.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

In my experience, Deathmarks are f'ing incredible... so long as you know how to use them properly.
(Hint: look up a combo called "Death & Despair")

Deathmarks are underwhelming to say the least. I used to use them in 5 am squads to lower the chance of deep strike misshap but since the gw FAQ said that a veil tech will not allow to remark another unit with hunters from hyperspace allowing you to reuse the strength 8 ap 2 flamer that wounds on 2's they are basically useless. The only situation which they are suited for now is a counter deathstar, or in other words to counter a super expensive unit of infantry that you feel a strong likelyhood your opponent will bring. That being said anrakyr is very underwhelming. I get that you want a warsythe on your chariot, which can be quite powerful, but you don't have any captains to trade him out for if he is to die, spare your cryptech. You would be better served points wise if you just give an overlord a warsythe and mind shackle scarabs, the chariot gives him a +1 armor save so no need for the sep weave. You could consider a phase shifter, but that's the extent of the wargear I would give him if you want a barge commander. Other than that I would trade out the points in Deathmarks for a lord + res orb and to max out your warrior squads in the ghost arch and on foot, so 30 warriors, 10 in the arch 20 on foot with the res orb to make them all but indestructible. I would also try to find a way to put another heavy support choice in, ideally an annihilation barge. They are in my opinion the best all around heavy support choice unless you want a strict gunline or airborn list. One final note either go with warriors or go with immortals, do not split. It makes for less synergy in your list. If you go with immortals I put them in nightsythes so they can get up close and personal with their rapid fire without sustaining footslogging losses. If you go warriors get as many as you can with as many ghost archs as you can to maximize their survivability.

So you're TFG who qq'd because he couldn't abuse that broken loophole anymore.
(we knew there had to be at least one out there).

... that's what they've always been for. AP1 flamer that wounds on a 2+ = obvious anti-deathstar unit.
This "basically useless" unit has saved my ass from Riptides and Terminators time and time again. I don't build a list without at least one.

No, from the sounds of it, you probably didn't know how to use them properly in the first place.
MSU D&D squads
• at least one starts on the table (typically the one with the Veil, to attempt a first blood alpha strike)
• other one(s) are embarked in Nightscythes, allowing pinpoint insertion, with no risk of scatter.
This gives you multiple HfH marks, taking out the most important infantry units. Guaranteed.
Is it as competitive as Wraith-Wing/'Cron Air?
Not really.
Does that mean it's not effective?
HA!
