Fellas, I need some ideas putting together a 500 point list of Space Wolves. It's for a long, slow paced tournament in which you gain 200 points every 2 months and additional points for winning and other things.

I will post some of my ideas after I get some discussion - I thought I'd let this grow a bit because I've gotta go right now. I was kind of thinking about using a 5 Missile longfang squad as some kind of a basis, though.

Long Fangs are a good start. You will definitely want mechanized Grey Hunters as well.

I would start with something like this:

Rune Priest 100
-Living Lightning, Jaws of the World Wolf

10 Grey Hunters 190
-2 Meltaguns, Rhino

5 Grey Hunters 120
-Plasmagun, Rhino

4 Long Fangs 90
-3 Missile Launchers

Total: 500

I think this is a great place to start for 500 point games. The first things you will want to add is more Long Fangs, Runic Armor on the Rune Priest, and another squad of Grey Hunters.

This would be my 700 point list::

Rune Priest 130
-Runic Armor, Chooser of the Slain, Living Lightning, Jaws of the World Wolf

10 Grey Hunters 190
-2 Meltaguns, Rhino

5 Grey Hunters 120
-Plasmagun, Rhino

5 Grey Hunters 120
-Plasmagun, Rhino

6 Long Fangs 140
-5 Missile Launchers

Total: 700

I added the Chooser of the Slain for anti-infiltration but mostly the increased BS for use with Living Lightning. This list is a great core for scaling up to 1,000 and 1,500 point games.

How could you have 4 longfangs with 5 missles? Typo? But I agree with yor builds they are solid. Although I might be tempted to put the grey hunters in drop pods while it's low points as tau interceptors won't be no where near as common due to point restrictions

I agree with the addition of drop pods. Despite Ion Accelerators intercepting, pods are still the preferred delivery method for Wolves. Their counterattack, double special weapons and easy access to cheap combi-weapons make a drop pod alpha strike the optimal playstyle.

Yep, that's a typo. Fixed.

Drop Pod Wolves definitely do work, but I prefer Rhinos for mobility and resilience past turn 1. With Drop Pods you leave yourself very vulnerable to a counterattack if your first turn doesn't do enough damage.

True. And I suppose with only 2 grey hunter squads your alpha strike is limited to 1 pod aswell. Yeah go with rhinos/razors then, my bad

Yeah I meant more pods for when the points are higher. At 500, Rhinos with GH are probably best. Though this also might be the only points level where taking a total boss Wolf Lord on a TW may be disproportionately powerful. Something to consider adding.

Sorry for the late reply fellas. Appreciate the feedback. I think I will go with that first build. I'm not sure that anything else would be worth the risk, if you know what I mean.. need to go for something sturdy.
