Subject: 2000 Point Necron Tournament List: Please advise!
Near the end of December, the local gaming group is holding a Christmas tournament, with 2000 points, 3 games and several strange objectives. I've put together a list that I feel covers most of my bases, but I'd like to submit it to the community to help smooth out the rough ends. Or, you know, tear it apart brick by soulless robotic brick and rebuild it into something viable if possible. So, with no further ado, here are the mission objectives and list.
Mission 1:
Spoiler:
Deployment:
Spearhead
Special Rules:
Night Fighting and Reserves
Primary Mission:
Kill points, whoever gets the most earns 20pts towards winning the tournament, ties earn 12pts, and least gets 6pts
Secondary mission:
1 Objective Marker will be placed in the center of the table. This Objective will follow all of the “Relic” special rules called out in the Warhammer 40,000 rule book on page 131. If no one controls the relic by the end of the game, it counts as a tie.
Win: 10pts Tie:6pts Loss:3pts
Bonus Objectives:
Linebreaker: 3pts
Slay the Warlord: 2pts
Mission 2:
Spoiler:
Deployment:
Standard Dawn of War
Special Rules:
Night Fighting and Reserves
Primary Mission:
At the end of the game, have more units in your enemy’s table half than your opponent does.
Win: 20pts Tie: 12pts, Loss: 6pts
Bonus Objectives:
Slay the Warlord: 3pts
First Blood: 2pts
Mission 3:
Spoiler:
Deployment:
Standard Dawn of War
Special Rules:
Night Fighting, Reserves, and Mysterious Objectives (Primary Mission only)
Primary Mission:
Before choosing sides, 4 Objectives Markers will be placed on the battlefield. Players will roll off to place objectives as described on page 121 of the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook (Each player will place 2 objectives). Try to control more of these objectives than your opponent.
Win: 20pts Tie: 12pts, Loss: 6pts
Secondary mission:
1 Marker will be placed in the center of the table. This Objective will follow all of the “Archeotech Artifacts” special rules called out in the Warhammer 40,000 rule book on page 106. Try to control it. If neither player controls it, or both contest it, it is a tie.
Win: 10pts Tie:6pts Loss:3pts
Bonus Objectives:
First Blood: 3pts
Linebreaker: 2pts
My List:
Spoiler:
HQ Trazyn the Infinite (Will probably always be Warlord)
-Court:
Destructek +Pulse
Dispairtek +VoD
Lord +ResOrb
Necron Overlord +Weave, MSS, Scythe, and ResOrb
-Court:
Destructek +Pulse
Dispairtek +VoD
Stormtek
Lord +ResOrb
Troops: 20 Warriors
10 Gauss Immortals
10 Gauss Immortals
8 Warriors in a Ghost Ark
Elites: 5 Deathmarks
5 Deathmarks
Heavy Support: Annihilation Barge
Annihilation Barge
Annihilation Barge
Total Points 1999
My Reasoning:
Spoiler:
In mission 1, I plan to make a rush for the Relic with Trazyn and a Resorb lord in the ghost ark by disembarking next to it after moving 6" (as spearhead deployment allows us to be within 12" of the center of the map), then reembarking the next turn and scurrying away. I chose Trazyn because he seems much more sturdy than simply letting a warrior or Lord pick it up. I'll pop the pulses during the first few turns to guarantee night fighting keeps the relic party alive and kicking. I'll use the Deathmark and dispairtek combo to hopefully nab me slay the warlord and linebreaker, depending on what turn they happen to come out of reserves. The warrior blob will simply hold its ground in cover with the overlord and a distructek, as will the immortal squads. The Barges will do what they do best wherever they're needed.
In mission 2, I plan to throw the dispairteks and Lords with the immortals so that they can pop over to the opponent's side at their leisure, or when they seem obviously threatened by imminent assault. The warrior blob and barges will defend my side depending on what comes after me, and the deathmarks will just try to stay alive over on whichever side needs more reinforcement. The ark will contain the stormtek and a distructek, and take out any vehicles that come within range
In mission 3, I plan to have one of the immortal squads take a dispairtek and lord for last minute contesting or controlling. Trazyn will go into the deathmark squad with the other VoD, and attempt to contest/control/draw fire. Really, this is just likely to be a chaotic mess, and I'll just try my best to control as many objectives as possible with a focus on the center.
My main problem is that I don't own all that much, so this is mostly just working with what I own. Past this, I own 25 more warriors, 5 more immortals, a variety of different Lords (Crypteks can be proxied as different crypteks), 18 Scarabs, 2 Ctan (They were really cheap), 1 Monolith (Also really cheap), 11 Wraiths (5 with whip coils, the old metal variety, I count the whip coils as the wires lashing about from the bottom of some of the models), One Dlord, and 3 spyders. If you notice, that count excludes all fliers, as most of this force was bought pre-6th edition. The longer I've waited since, the less viable they've seemed given the increased proliferation of skyfire. A big thing I'm noticing is a lack of either scythes or MSS on the lords, but I'm not sure what to eliminate to add those, or which to add. Also note that Trazyn mostly just exists to deny slay the warlord, capture the Relic more easily, and troll by controlling objectives.
So hey, please tear this list a new one.
