Greetings, as the title states I am looking to start playing Bolt Action and I think I'd like the collect and play the Imperial army. Now out of my LGC they were the only army which werent picked and i curious to know why lol. Is there a reason no one has picked them?

Any tips and suggestions anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

It may be that the imperial army book was only released relatively recently? (this summer I believe).

If you're looking for discounted prices, have a look at:

any info on what they're like playing? How do i go about arranging an army list/points system? stuff like that is what i'm curious about.
I really don't want to make blind purchases and spend money on items i'll not use etc..

but thanks for the link!

Hi st1mp0,
The thousand point starter box is a pretty safe bet when starting an army (who would have thought it ) it has enough for your required 1 officer and two troop units after that you can just make it up as you want with what you have, as far as I know they even put a suggested list on the side of the box aswell.
I haven't had any experience using or playing against the IJA yet my gaming group is mostly focused on Europe currently, as Amosis66 said the bolt action forum is a good place for people with knowledge of specific armies and what works well in a list.

Thanks, I am actually in the middle of watching a demo game run by Beasts of war on you tube. looks a really enjoyable game!
I have actually already looked at the Warlords forum but havent found anything to help me in regards the IJA and im 5 pages in :(
Wondering if you are stuck to a specific army list, like with (WHF) you have to follow a certain percentage for Core and special units. Is there such a restriction in BA?
Im hoping to have a few snipers included in my list and wondered if its possible or do i have a limited amount of specific units per points value?

Thanks for the help any-who

Its a great game probably one of my favorites,
In regards to force selection you have platoons which have to consist of one lieutenant and two infantry squads, once you've done that you can have pretty much as you want there are set am mounts of which unit you can have. All the armies have a generic selector that mostly only let's you have one of the specialist units ie: snipers, however each army book has a section called theater selectors which are more focused on the historical representation of the units involved in that theater, I've just had a brief look through the armies of Japan and one of the theatre selectors allows you to take three snipers which is a lot, I've never seen more than one used in a game before.
If there's anything else you'd like to know I'd be happy to help.

PS. I also forgot to mention each Nation gets its own special rules, which helps to give them a different feel.

found this which helped!

japans special rule is explained in that little PDF. if I have read it correctly it allows my units to charge the closest enemy unit without taking command checks regardless of the amount of pinning tokens on them. unless i wish to charge a unit which is further away then the closest (if so i have to roll command checks as normal)
hope thats correct anyway

ooo i also have Fanatics special rule (though i have no idea what that is) lol

That is pretty helpful just so your aware its not the full list there are a few units missing but its good to have a look at to give you an idea of what's what.

Edit: yes that's correct as far as I can tell also fanatics means when your inclose combat you keep fighting until your unit either wins or get wiped out, with close combat if your not fanatics and you lose more men than the other player in a round of cc you lose and that unit is removed,

Yep, just get that.

There's a generic army list (something equivalent to HQ and two troops) and then historical theater-specific lists that get a bit more specific.
