I have been playing cygnar for some time now . With little success[0 games won since I started to play] . Now there is a tasty noob tournament coming up which I would like to place higher then the only other cygnar player around here to get the top cygnar stuff.


This are the two lists I have been using and am looking for advice how to make them better or if they are bad what to replace them with .

Are both the best what can be done or are they bad , but can't be fixed ?

You´ve got the same problem as I do right now. You lack a unit that can take it on the chin, only ranged won´t really help in scenario play. Stormblades tear huge holes in enemys but they can´t take the retaliation. You might think about some screening units like Steelhead Halbediers, Boomhowler & Co or Storm Guard.

I did notice that a lot of my loses come from inability to choke contesting zones . The rest from not having problems with reaching melee with my stormblades or forgeguard.

I tried runing two units of gunmages in front and pushing enemies back , but that doesn't work on stealth and all my opponents have too many aoes .

thank you for the anwser . after 2 days I did get the feeling that the lists are unfixable. Only cygnar player here, hard to get advice or learn tactics.

Personally I think you are missing some key Cygnar models looking at the list of models you have

Consider the following

Solos - Squire, Journeyman Warcaster, Rhupert Carvalo, p/e Eiryss, Gorman Di Wulfe, Reinholdt
Jacks - Stormclad, Defender, Ol' Rowdy or Stormwall if your meta using Collossals, Lancer, Thorn
Units - Gun Mages UA, Stormblade UA (looks like you don't have either), Tempest Blazers, Nyss Hunters, Boomhowlers, Rangers, Master Holt and Aiyanna, Max the Forge Guard, Black 13th, Max the Stormlance


Well there is nothing in the Haley list that wants to get into the zone apart from the Cent. Long Gunners are static, Hammerfall's are slow when in Shieldwall, the only stealth counter is GMCA when he is aiming as you have no UA with Gun Mages. Personally I would look at dropping both GMCA, Long Gunners and Hammerfall. Get the UA for the Gun Mages so they have true sight for Anti-stealth and switch the Hunter to Gun Mage UA so it can take advantage of the Gun Mage Runeshots, Squire as it really is an auto-include with Haley. Then you could add a Max unit of Stormlances, Jnr and Rhupert. Deadeye with Gun Mages and Assault Stormlances with Electro leap will happily remove Infantry, Stormlances offer some heavy hitting to deal with high armour, as they are large bases model with reach they can jam zones.


As for Siege again I he missing some key stuff. Squire, Reinholdt and Rangers are considered main stays in his lists. Squire for the extra range for his Feat, Reinholdt for Reload, Rangers to help the fact his RAT is only 6. Defender is also normally paired with him if you don't have access to Stormwall. Eiryss is worth looking at for the Siege assassination run,

non of those models are sold here . I got the 3 stormlances as a gift and bought the last box of ForgeGuard 6 months ago .
Colossals are owned only by people who could buy them online . The only other cygnar stuff I could get here is realy bad , trenchers , trencher chainguns , grenadiers etc.

So while your advices are good , I am unable to use them . I know the gunmage cpts suck , but they are my only weapon against cryx stealth units .

Could you not get your LGS to order them in or failing that use on-line retailers to buy the stuff.

No offence was meant, sadly I don't know his situation in terms of buying models.

Okay I don't know if you your local meta will allow you to proxy or if you use war room or can get access to the Gun Mage UA stat card but you could use one of the GMCA as the UA

So if that is possible you could go

No problem man . I did talk with the FLGS owner here , his problem with cygnar is that out of 40+active players here , some with more then 1 army . There is one cygnar player [me] and one person who owns , but rarely plays cygnar[the shop owner plays only when he wants the cygnar only rewards to sell them online] . He told me that he can order all the other faction stuff , even the mercs and they will sell in one day . Cygnar on the other hand hangs on its shelfs since prime .

No proxy policy , but to not be too whiny . I must say that a few months ago I went to a tournament in another city and a dude there gave [yes for free] 3/4 of the cygnar stuff I own right now . If I werent for him I would still be filling my army with highshields and rhulic light jacks . I think it is mostly people playing in my city that are different [or the people from Katowitz are different] .

I agree that some Cygnar stuff is not optimal and will stay around for a while, but if you can convince him to just to try and get you UAs for the Gun Mages and Stormblades, Squire and Jnr then I think you will be better off.

If he can order Mercs then really try and get him to do so, that way you can max your Forgeguard, get Eiryss, Rhupert, Boomhowlers and Master Holt and Aiyanna (the ability to make weapons Magical or a damage buff really helps especially if you are taking Long Gunners)

It must be frustrating being the only Cygnar player in your local Meta and not having the ability to get the stuff you require. Kudos to the guy who gave you his Cygnar stuff though.
