I been playing Warhammer/40k since 1990. I am looking at downsizing my armies and what not due to not playing the games much anymore. I don't need a bunch of extra stuff laying around in hopes of an apoc battle (which I never have played) or to have "several options" for this and that. It all takes up space and if I can get extra funds to fund my hobby, pay for trips with wife to go do a honeymoon we never got, fund other things, etc... I have stuff sitting on my shelves doing nothing for years in hopes to play games that I have hard time finding players to play or in the case of some players I grew up with they don't care to play anymore...I could go on and on.

So what I been thinking of doing is using Army Builder to make up a list of "X" points and make the list smaller. Example 2,000 points... then go 1750, 1500, 1000, and 500 and kill team values if possible. All the rest of the figures/additional vehicles, etc would be put on ebay... only a core army remains. See my signature for the armies I have and the ones I am looking to streamline.

My questions are: What point value should I shoot for like 2000 points for 40k? Fantasy? How should I pick (I know you don't know what figures I have and it would be way too much to list all my models) what to keep and what not to keep.. if that is possible to ask lol? Should I get rid of all armies and just keep 2 40k and 2 Fantasy armies (so I can play games with someone who might not have models and what not)? Should i keep all special characters or just keep one in the army and get rid of the others? Should I just have a list of like said 2000 points as example and keep some options above the 2000 points, but get rid of extra stuff (not sure how to word that question but i think might make sense)? What is the best way to price older figures with not pro painted paint jobs but I think decent (have some in my gallery as examples)? When I do ebay or whatever what is most efficient way to do it lol cause I have tons of stuff to list and seems daunting?

I am not looking at getting a lot for figures... but not want to get taken either and I need funds to continue in the hobby if make sense and I don't need tons of metal/plastic laying around anymore. I also want to just be able to pull a list and play not waste time figuring out what the most uber army is to defeat a foe... I just like the game for what it is and rather just setup a battle and play instead of worrying about tweaking an army to defeat a certain foe.

In regards to making lists, I try to the same thing to minimize on any unnecessary model purchases (whirlwinds are cool and all but will I really use one?) . For 40k, I go as high as 2500 then work my way down (2500, 2000, 1850, 1750, 1500, 1000, 750, 500) trying to limit myself to what models I'll have in the 2500 list. Same for Fantasy but I start at 3000.

Aside from what you are definitely going to use in your lists, I'd keep the special characters handy.

Have you made a swap shop thread here? I'd suggest perusing them to get an idea on pricing maybe.

I would try and keep your 40k units to 2500 pts. This way you can have a 2000 pts army that also have a 1750, 1500, and 500 pt varient while having a left over 500 pts of spare interchangeable units.

For fantasy doom the same but keep a maximum of 2400 pts.

The easiest way to sell your figures would be to try selling them locally first. Use craigslist or kijiji to try and find a local buyer for a cash transaction. That way you don't need to worry about shipping / any issues that come with ebay buyers. Once you've sold a decent chunk locally, then spread the remaining figures into individual units for sale online (or group them into 500 pt chunks for sale).
