Hi all,

I am completely new to this game. My friend took me to the shop the other day and I was immediately drawn to the Ork codex. I have read through the whole thing and am already hooked! I am trying to create a viable roster and am really looking forward to working towards building it. My friend has given me 20 boys to start off with.

I also want to note that at first I will probably only be playing him, just while I learn the ropes. He plays Space Wolf. I have put this list together and would really appreciate some feedback and the benefit of your wisdom.

I have to say I am petrified by the thought of Deep Stiking Terminators, drop pod melta squads and being flanked by Thunderwolf cavalry, any advice on how to deal with this would be great. I have been considering fitting in a couple of grot squads somewhere. Mainly for taking objectives and surrounding my wagons on deployment if I don't get to go first.

Here is my list. Please be gentle.

Painted Blood Axe Boy number 1 last night. Going for an urban camo look. I will be trying out a few styles on the boyz first before committing to anything - suggestions/criticism always welcome.

Very competent list, pretty much the best way to run Orks right now. I honestly can't suggest any major improvements, you already have most things down. I would perhaps consider making your squads 2x7 Lootas so you can afford to give the Warboss an Attack Squig and Cybork Body - if the Meganobz end up going toe-to-toe with some terminators they'll want the help. Alternatively you could reduce the squad to 3 Meganobz + the Warboss and use the extra points to buy a Warbuggy with Rokkits just for a little extra anti-tank - the Meganobz would then be used mostly for absorbing overwatch and you could deal with Terminators by volume of fire, just force them to take lots of armour saves with your shootas.

Currently not in posession of any armies - I merely theorycraft and discuss background,
Waiting for HH Book 6 so I can start an Imperial Army army.

First great paint job.

I go with trukks why because there faster and with a KFF pretty survivable

Second you might want to get some shoota boys to cover your lootas. Keeps away some of those pesky Deep Striking units.

Boss poles you will need them

Thank you both for your input. You've mentioned that shoota boys are a viable way to deal with the Terminators, I will bare that in mind.

If he wants to target/deep strike the supporting loota squads I am actually OK with that. It is why I opted to keep them small and cheap, but I suspect he will throw everything at the MANZ wagon.

thisisnotaseriousaccount - I like the idea of bigger loota squads it will give them a bigger punch anyway. I will play about with this and then hopefully fit in some of the gear I had to leave out.

mp40guy - I have considered Trukks but they scare me! I would also like to have larger squads. I have thought about putting the MANZ in a truck (because I don't expect their wagon to live long anyway), then just racing it as far down the table as I can. Thoughts on this? I totally hear you on the boss poles. I honestly don't know if i can expect to have some assemblance of the boyz squad left after he pops their wagon on my ride down. Can anyone clarify for me? If I can, then the boss pole will be crucial I imagine.

Your army is off to a great start, ya git!

On the subject of the truck; you are 9/10 times going to lose that truck on the first turn of enemy shooting, especially if the trukk has MANZ with a Warboss in it, which is why you need first turn. Alot of time people will give up the first turn to you to see where you deploy your stuff... Totally fine, as alot of our strong lists deploy the same anyway. My point is this is your ace in the hole to get that truck to the enemy. It is essentially our drop pod; it gets a big nasty unit in the enemy's face off the bat... botta play smarter against tau or eldar though with all that yummy AP2 high strength floating around. We need to do more tandem assaults where we let the boyz break the line and the MANZ to smash the monkey-turds out of the soft squishy innards of the enemy formation. All this backed up by our thunderous lootas makes for a great hammer and anvil... plus, not many of the other codices has enough fire power to drop 90 boys by turn three, take that into consideration lol

Thanks! Lots of good advice I can't wait to see how it all goes down in practice.

Just to clarify about the truck. Are you saying that the MANZ transport is likely to fall in turn 1 anyway (truck or wagon) so it may as well be a truck as it is faster/cheaper, or did you mean if I choose a truck it will fall in turn 1 and the wagon has more of a chance of getting the MANZ where they wanna be, preferably knee deep in some umie blood. I don't like the idea of them getting stranded in my starting zone in turn 1! That sounds like game over to me.

I apologize, my inexperience is shining through.

I am going to get my paint on tomorrow, big time. Can't wait to get some games going. I just want to make sure I give my mate something to think about when its done.

I have worked out a smaller foot slog list to give me a bit of practice while I put the rest of this list together. After that it on to the 2k pts edition! Dakkajets anyone?!
