I have a large RT coming up and am planning on taking my Tau. I have had decent success with a list like this but want opinions on how I can make it better.

The Twilight Zone

I take it your bubbling the warriors, finders, sides and ethereal in/around the skyshield?

Your skyshield costs less than you have listed. You could spend the points spare on a 'vre for the broadsides, or drop the BSF from the skyray and get a drone somewhere.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Thanks for catching the points in the landing pad. So I now have 51 points to spend.

And yes the strategy is to hide everything on the Landing Pad unless there is other terrian so I can spread out a little. The place that I holding the tourney is notorious for not many large LOS blocking pieces of terrain.

What about adding another Crisis suit with double melta?

You really need a DF for the ethereal. Otherwise looking good

A DF? Do you mean a devilfish and why do you say that?

I hide my Ethereal in the middle of my Broadsides so that I can use his special abilities. I don't think they work if he is in a transport.

Yeah devilish. Extra protection and quick escape if worst comes to worst, also good for last turn objective grab.
(He can still cast out of it)

Personally, I wouldn't take an Ethereal. I mean, sure it is a cheap HQ unit, but it only has two wounds and a toughness of 3. All they need is a precision shot or two and they score an extra victory point. But, looking over this, unless you can juice points from somewhere, that's not going to happen. That's OK, just remember to keep him alive.

It also feels like you would do better with your Hammerhead with a Railgun with Submunition Rounds. This army seems to have not very many AV14 Busters. Sure, you have the fusion guns, but is that your only source? Remember rocket sniping...

It also feels a bit short on troops... maybe this could be remedied?

So you have 51 points to spend and that Ethereal + 1 pathfinder team is 127 points. Meaning you have 178 points. Drop the Hammerhead down to a 2nd Skyray (you have decent large blasts and volume fire as is). That's 188 which gets you.

Commander: 2 Missile Pods, DC, TL 128
Marker Drone team: 56

Are the vehicles going on the Landing Pad if so drop the DPs for more Marker drones.

This would also enable you to start most or even all your troops in reserve (perhaps switching a unit or two up for Kroot) to help out with their survivability.

That could work ^^
You could even ditch the LP for an ADL

Then ditch a skyray for a quad gun and then you've got 65pts for a Kroot squad

I normally don't have to much trouble with lack of troops so I am okay with the few I have.

And the tanks will probably be on the LP if there is room and I don't feel I need then elsewhere. And as for the HH, I very rarely see many av14 tanks, but I do face a lot of Tyranid MC so the Ion will probably work better for me.

And I have never used marker drones before. Are they that much better than Pathfinder?

I always prefer the Mark'o or the buffmander to pathfinders. The former can help anything the later does little for the Broadsides but is cheaper.

If you're doing that list ^^ you still need a DF and the farseer need to be on jetbike.
If I were doing that list I'd stick the farseer on a bike and ditch the ethereal and a pathfinder squad for a buffmander and marker drone squad

And personally, with not much that would deep strike in the list I'd be taking an aegis (w or w/out the quad gun - your choice).
I also noticed you don't have Longstrike. Hammerheads rule #1: take Longstrike

Farseer can join the Broadsides, if he needs to.

I'd try and shoe-horn in another unit of Jetbikes. Maybe drop some of the missle-drones, 12S7 shots at something is usually enough to do the job, don't need the extra 12 at BS2.

The Farseer would definitely be hiding in the Broadsides and casting Prescience and Guide on the rip rides. Maybe I will get him a bike.

As for dropping the Ethereal for a commander, I don't see where I can squeeze the points to make the commander worthwhile.
