So I've gotten wind that I'll be getting the Escape from Goblintown boxed set for Christmas this year, and as such have decided to round up my old Moria models from back in the day in order to put together a list. I haven't played the LOTR SBG in three years or so, so I'm a bit rusty. Please feel free to comment and critique as appropriate.

(WB 1)
Durburz
6x Moria Goblin w/ Shield
6x Moria Goblin w/ Spear

(WB 2)
Ashrak
Cave Troll w/ Spear and Chain
Cave Troll w/ Spear and Chain
10x Moria Goblin w/ Orc Bow

(WB 3)
Moria Goblin Captain w/ Shield
6x Moria Goblin w/ Shield
6x Moria Goblin w/ Spear

Points: 493

I expect that two Cave Trolls are either not the best idea in the world, due to the lack of bodies in the list, or they're brilliant because of how much damage that they can inflict. I have more Goblins in my collection, and I'm also thinking of converting up some Warg Marauders for fun. Suggestions in what other Moria units are worth looking into would be appreciated.

So it's perfect?

Personally I wouldn't put all my Bows in one warband, as volleyfire has been removed and you might end up with all your archery in a screwy position if deployment doesn't work out.
Boy though, you are similar to me. I only have a buncha goblins and a few cave trolls and have converted warg marauders.

I would see if you can fit a Shaman in there, because they can prove to be invaluable with a goblin list(as I have found out playing against them!)

Two trolls is always better then one! No but seriously cave trolls work better in pairs.

Also if you find any points left over, give some extra goblins shields, if you have the points you may as well...

I would definitely (and will do myself) model some marauders, even just for the converting experience, and because GW ones are expensive and there is only one sculpt.

Nice list, did you get EfGT?

I'm using Ashrak for Shaman duties at the moment, but I could drop him down to a generic Shaman to free up some points. I did end up getting EfGT.

Oh yeah forgot about him... He is worth it. Are you going to ally in the EfGT goblins for a mega goblin army?!

I was thinking about doing so when I play at higher points levels. Right now I'm mostly looking at 500 point games, since I'm in an area with a small SBG player base and will most likely be providing house armies to friends if they decide that they want to have a go.

I'd drop spears and chains since trolls shouldn't really be supporting and are pretty low on the shoot value so you aren't very likely to hit.

Trolls are pretty good though, I would suggest spreading them out amongst other warbands so you don't get both of them into a terrible postion with one bad roll.

I'd agree with dropping chains on trolls, they can always throw stones if you're desperate to shoot.
Spears aren't as bad as they used to be because the trolls stats would now be used for the supporting attack, but the full attacks is better than a single supporting attack so I wouldn't bother, also the point cost messes up an otherwise simple batch of fives

Others have also said not to bunch archers up, goblin bows are pretty poor and work more as a potential bonus not as an outright shooty model. And with the current deployment system it can go horribly wrong, a solid mix of swords spears and bows works fine

Honestly id take 3 trolls i know this sounds ridiculous but heres my theory.

2 trolls will control the flanks then the horde needs to defend the rest of the table. 3 trolls will have the flanks and a mobile support for the inner table. Lack of bodies won't really matter asthe trolls can become mobile before returning back to protect the sides. This will essentially give you enough support to take a beating but still hit back. The only problem i can see is high shooty armies like elves

Elves die to numbers. Any time someone can get me into cc with a 2:1 ratio on my elves its rare I come out on top. The trick here will be to stay tight and move together using the trolls to break the lines of shooty armies.

That's what i mean by support. They hit and run opposed to tying down big units and becoming points sinks.... I really need to start explaining things thourghlly. Only problem is from memory a troll costs about the same as 10 gobbos

The key is keeping your trolls hidden until combat, the defence isn't that tough with sustained fire, always try to get something between them and blocks of archers.

I remember when the first few models came out defence 6 was rare haha
