After deciding that my HQ selections will be a fluff choice, rather than a competitive choice, I cam up with this list I'm considering:

Primary: ABG (IA v1, 2E)
Allied: Codex: IG


Armoured Battle Group (293rd Landsharks 1st Tank Division)

HQ:
-Leman Russ Exterminator w/HB sponsons, Lascannon [195 pts]

Troops:
-LRBT [150 pts]

So. Without changing the HQ choices, what do you think of this list? What sort of tactics would you suggest (I've only just started getting into IG and ABG, so I'm a noob with them)?

You could also consider swapping the Hydra for some specia weapons on those squads. This list trades 4 Battle Cannons for 5 Demolisher Cannons - the Heavy Bolters weren't doing much if you fired the turret anyway, so it's not a big loss - more than made up for by the fact you're throwing a massive five 10" blasts around. 4 scoring units should be plenty - if the opponent is devoting fire to popping Chimerae and getting at the guys inside, you should find five unmolested Thunderers will practically end games on their own, annihilating any target you care to mention with ease.

This list is a great suggestion. Personally, I prefer Demolishers over Thunderers. Keeping that AV14 forward (thank you, turret), still being useful when immobilized, and losing the HB instead of the cannon sometimes is all worth 15 points to me. Still, personal preference. And the points saved bought you a Hydra. Other than that, you definitely have the idea of ABG+IG.

That list looks good, but it totals 1570 pts, rather than 1500.
I could drop the Hydra, as I rarely see any fliers that aren't mine, and then add 5 pts somewhere
