My gf has been showing interest in gaming lately so I showed her several different games. She didn't like Warhammer, Warmachine, etc. I started showing her some Malifaux(I've never played it myself I just know they have really great models and a good back story). She was looking through the models and she really liked Colette and the showgirls crew. She also liked that the game is card driven instead of dice. So I guess my questions are is the Colette box an ok box to learn the rules with and if so what box should I get that would be considered a pretty even matchup? Also I know the game is going through a rules transition is there a way to get the updated stat cards for the models? Thanks in advance guys.

I think the Colette models are still back in 1.5e (current is 2). A good way to start is to find out the faction you are interested in (Colette would be Arcanists) and then buy the Arsenal Box ($8) and the small rulebook ($15). I recently started and I got Arcanists, and Colette is not in their Arsenal Box. The current Arsenal Boxes are Wave 1, so she might be in Wave 2 (not really sure how the wave thing works). It's a great game and I hope you like it!

How are you gentlemen. All your base are belong to us.

All hail the Magic Conch!

Currently Colette is being tested in open beta- the official rules will be downloadable in feb IIRC, and in print later in the year.

So should I have her look at the sets that have the 2.0 cards already and see if any of those strike her fancy?

The new cards will be available for free as a download on Feb. 10th according to wyrd. So if you don't mind waiting a little more than a month then you'll be OK.
You will want to pick up a rulebook and you could just practice with some empty bases with names on them.

Ok cool thanks for the info guys! Does it look like the figs in Colettes starter will be seeing any base size changes?

Probably not, pretty sure they said that none of the wave 2 minis are getting a base size change.

Also worth noting that the ten thunders orian are showgirls so fir in her theme- an easy one to miss since they aren't arcanists.

Just wanted to hijack for a question of my own quickly. I'm just starting Malifaux as well, and I'm not entirely sure how the 2E models are releasing. I know everything is being redone, so I assume that all the Masters in the rulebook will eventually get their own Crew Boxes. Would it still be worth grabbing the Arsenal Boxes for the upgrade cards? I'm sure the subsequent Crews will contain upgrade cards like the ones out now have, but I wasn't sure if they would all come out eventually.

All masters will eventually get crew boxes (or, at least, none in wyrd's history haven't so far).

If you're starting completely fresh and don't intend to get any metals, then the only thing the arsenal decks offer are the general upgrades (i.e. ones not associated with a specific theme or piece), so if you're fine photocopying those pages from the core book (2 per faction), you'll be fine. That's what I'd do in your place.
