Hello Dakkanaughts!

I am looking to pick up the Ghordson Earthbreaker Collossal this week and am planning out a new Durgen Madhammer list for it. This is a modification of my 25pt list to include the Earthbreaker.

Durgen Madhammer - +6WJ
-Ghordson Earthbreaker - 19(?)

Max Devil Dogs - 7

Master Gunner Doug - 2

Thor Steinhammer - 2

Reinholdt - 1

I have run both the Devil Dogs and the Stealhead halbrediers and I still find the Devil dogs somewhat more useful. I had a couple games where I got the steelheads in to tie up units with Primed on them, but my opponent was able to walk many of his units out to the edge of their reach and kill them without suffering the explosion. The toolbox devil dogs just seem capable of more shenanigans with their KD and guns. Plus, Sam is basically a solo with her stats, weapons, and abilities being completely different from the rest of the squad. Paired with the Earthbreaker's AOE4 KD guns, I can get a pretty significant amount of damage out with the Devil Dogs without needing to net enemy jacks/beasts.

The list basically relies on the absolutely massive quantities of fire power that Durgen and the Earthbreaker lay down to clear light targets and knockout key solo models. Since the Devil dogs gain a bonus damage die against any KD target, they can become really dangerous to just about anything with the Earthbreaker landing up to two 4" quakes each turn. The tinker is just there because I had an extra point left over and he seemed like a good option to mitigate the damage from primed since Thor will be tuning up most of the game.

I've never been a big fan of the DDs. If your opponent can snipe Sam the unit becomes next to worthless.

Also, a Colossal at 25pts?

Don't be TFG.

Why does the unit become next to worthless? All of their abilities come from their equipment and nothing comes from Sam except for the jack oriented abilities.

And how is running a collossal at 25pts make me a Total Fan Girl!?

My tiny local group would probably do pretty well against it anyways.

No no, it's fine. As soon as Cryx is across the table he'll be in for some sad times. Full unit of Banes with nothing to charge except the big giant thing? Cool! A full unit of Raiders pairing Feedback and Backlash? Instantly dead caster.

Edit: That said, I really don't think a Colossal at 25pts is too terribly unfriendly *most* of the time. I can see certain situations or matchups that are just sad times for the opponent, but not too many.

Consider what is given up to run a colossal: I usually run with a driller, Max Forgeguard, Gorman di wolfe, and a gunner. Thats alot to give up for a single model.

Also noticed that I did not put Reinholdt in the list, so, skip the Gobber tinker.

I have no idea how I would deal with the satyxis raiders. I would have to find a way to kill the UA and then blast the rest of the squad to death. The banes dont worry me as much, at least I can still cover them in in-direct fire. I know the knights have pretty good ARM, but also consider that the Earthbreaker would have tuned up POW13 AOEs and Durgen would have 4 boosted POW14 AOEs. I would need above average rolls, but I think I could thin them out pretty well before they reached my lines.

Why is it considered unfriendly to run a colossal in lower point games? They consume so much of the list, it seems like it may be more of a hindrance. All your points in one basket means your opponent has just one target to worry about alpha striking.
